The IRIS LDAP servers (ldap.eecs.berkeley.edu) provide usernames and passwords for many EECS applications and servers. On Monday, April 29th at 6pm, we will be upgrading these servers and their related load balancers to Red Hat 8. We plan to gracefully fail the old servers over to the new with no loss of service. As part of this upgrade, new SSL certificates have also been installed. Those accessing our servers programmatically might notice the certificate upgrade, but most users should not see any changes.

We are experiencing a variety of issues with the EECS border firewall, where connections to ports which should be open are being blocked. We are currently investigating.

For many years the Department has operated an anonymous ftp server at ftp.eecs.berkeley.edu and ftp.cs.berkeley.edu. Before web sites, this was how software and papers were distributed to the public. Since web sites are the preferred way to distribute digital assets these days, no new content has been published on our ftp servers for over a decade. We will be ending support for anonymous ftp access effective May 1, 2024. After that time, the current contents of our ftp archive will continue to be made available via a web page at https://ftp.eecs.berkeley.edu and https://ftp.cs.berkeley.edu/.
NetApp Fileserver Maintenance, Saturday March 30, 2024
We are scheduling a NetApp ONTAP upgrade, to update our NetApp fileserver, from 8am to 12pm on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
All Home directories and Project shares (CIFS/SMB and NFS) may experience disconnection during the update that may cause data loss on active, open files. Please close your open files and save them before Saturday Morning. Services (e.g. webservice) that depend on this storage will also be temporarily down or unresponsive.
When maintenance is completed, NFS clients should automatically resume normal operation, but a reboot should help if they don’t. CIFS clients (such as Windows and MacOS) may need to remount filesystems, or simply be rebooted.

Between 11AM and 5PM on Friday, March 29th, we will be replacing the access switches which provide wired network connectivity on the 1st floor of Cory Hall (including the mezzanine) and the 2nd floor of Soda Hall.
Wired networks in these locations will experience various interruptions during this time. Most of these interruptions will be brief (<30 seconds), but some cables on Cory 1F/1M will be down for an extended period of time (over an hour). Wireless networks will not be affected.
Primary networking in the server rooms (165 Cory, 287-290 Soda) will not be affected by this work. The exception is the floor boxes in those rooms, which will be affected.
Update 3/29 15:41: This maintenance has been completed and all networks are back online. Please email help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any ongoing network issues.
