Wireless Networks
IRIS assists Berkeley IT in maintaining Wi-Fi networks throughout the EECS department. The primary wireless network on campus is eduroam. Other available networks include Berkeley-IoT (for simpler devices that are not compatible with eduroam) and Berkeley-Visitor (for campus visitors without eduroam access). There are no longer any EECS-specific wireless networks.
For more information on wireless networks, please see the following:
EECS Wired Networks
Wired networks in Soda, Cory, Sutardja Dai, and Jacobs Halls, plus BWRC are managed by IRIS. We maintain central network services such as DHCP, DNS, and NTP, and monitor and regulate activity.
Systems on the EECS network must be registered with IRIS. Please see these links for more information:
- EECS Network How-To
- IRIS Network Forms (device registration/update/unregistration, port activation/update)
Campus Wired Networks
Wired networks elsewhere on campus (outside of the EECS buildings listed above) are managed by Berkeley IT, and they maintain the relevant network services.
Systems on the campus network must be registered with bIT. Please see these links for more information:
- Campus Network How-To
- Socreg (device registration/management)
- Berkeley IT Service Hub (cable activation)
EECS Firewall
Wired networks in Soda, Cory, Sutardja Dai, and Jacobs Halls, plus BWRC and Berkeley Way West 8 are protected by the EECS firewall. The EECS firewall is managed by IRIS, on hardware which is maintained by bIT.
The EECS firewall is open by default: in other words, we allow the majority of traffic, and only block certain inbound ports. Please see the link below for information on which ports we block.
