Welcome to the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department at UCBerkeley!

This website contains information about computing, instructional, and electronics support within EECS. Use it as a resource for navigating our large, complex environment.

Here’s what to do first:

  1. Get an account. You will need one of these to be able to log in to computers in the department, send e-mail, and access the internet.
  2. Connect your computer to the network. This is not as simple as it might seem, due to our need to maintain an orderly and manageable computing environment. There are some steps you need to take in order to bring a machine online, or move it around from place to place. If you have a systems administrator, they’ll take care of this for you.

Need help?

Contact the helpdesk.

While there are departmental groups that provide services to members of the department, not all research groups in the department choose to use them. Many groups have full-time system administrators on staff, others engage the departmental groups.

It isn’t always clear who you need to talk to in order to solve a problem, but the helpdesk is a resource that will point you in the right direction.
