The IRIS website will be offline for 30 minutes on Sep 12, 2007 beginning at 5:00 p.m. as we’ll be applying operating system patches to the server hosting it.

Vendor support has ended for the version of the SSH Secure Shell on IST’s software.berkeley.edu. and EECS’s winsww.eecs and hermes.eecs. At this time the product does not meet campus Minimum Security Standards and may increasingly become a potential target for attack.
IST has announced they will end distribution of this Windows SSH client on October 1, 2007. IDSG is announcing the same.
Effective October 1, 2007, SSH Secure Shell will no longer be available on winsww.eecs or hermes.eecs.
This only affects the Windows SSH client. Vendor-provided command line ssh clients are not affected on Solaris, Linux, or MacOS. Nor does this affect the SSH service on argus or any other servers.
IRIS is weighing alternative replacements, and a recommendation will be forthcoming.

The IRIS website (this very site) **will be offline briefly between 5:30p.m. and 6:30p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2007** in order to apply an update to the news publishing software.
Total downtime shouldn’t be more than 30 minutes.

The IRIS website server (iris.eecs.berkeley.edu) was rebooted at around 11:40am today, due to unforseen complications arising from the emergency network outage at 10:40am. Immediately prior to the reboot, you may have been unable to log in to network or roster database applications, and experienced a general slowness problem. IRIS staff apologizes for inconvenience. If you are still experiencing problems with this server, please contact help@eecs immediately.

Our old firewall is struggling under the current load. As a result, we will be switching the main server net (169.229.60.0/25) to the new infrastructure. This should be a very brief outage. We will do this emergency measure at 10:40. We regret the inconvenience this may cause.
