Soda 5F Wi-Fi Outage 5/4/17

Half of the wireless APs in 5th floor Soda were offline due to a failure of the PoE switch. Issue has been worked around and switch will be replaced. Network should be fully available at this time.

Wednesday, May 3, 2017 – Google Drive Spam / Phishing Message

incidents.

That web pages states –

At approximately 11:35am this morning, users across campus started receiving email notifications saying that someone has shared a document with them on Google Drive.

This issue is under investigation by Google and is not isolated to UC Berkeley.

If you received any of these messages, do not click on the link, and delete the email.

Though the scheduled downtime is 6:30am to 8am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

Soda Aggregation Router Upgrade, 5/2/17

We will be performing a software upgrade of the Soda Hall aggregation router at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, May 2nd. Wired and wireless networks in Soda Hall will be unavailable for 5-10 minutes while the router reboots. BWRC will also be cut off from the outside world during this time as its uplink is dependent on this router.

The Millennium research network will not be affected.

This upgrade is being performed to resolve certain bugs in the current software version so that we can move forward with our early-stage IPV6 deployment, which is currently targeted for this summer.

Brief outages to various IRIS services, tonight 6pm-6:30pm

Routine RedHat Linux operating system patches have been released which require system reboots. Starting at 6pm Wednesday, April 12, IDSG will be patching and rebooting affected servers. The following services will experience brief outages of 10 minutes or less between 6pm and 6:30pm.

* Department mailing list services (lists.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* Department jabber/xmpp service (jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* IRIS website (iris.eecs.berkeley.edu)

Wireless Network Outage, Soda 3rd fl. South

There is currently a wireless outage in the south portion of the 3rd floor of Soda Hall (serving the CS division offices). Network may be available but slow due to coverage from nearby APs. Staff are investigating.

April 2017 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, April 11th, 2017.

PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, April 12th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, April 12th, depending on additional software updates.

Network interruption at EECS border

April 10, 2017 by Lars Rohrbach

A little after 1pm today, we experienced a loss of network traffic at the EECS border. Typical network use within EECS continued to work, though it appeared we were cut off from the rest of campus, and the outside world.

Staff investigation found the problem to be at or with one of the department border firewall devices. The secondary firewall device has been made primary now, and traffic is routing properly. Staff will further examine the problem firewall device, to narrow down the specific cause.
