BWRC Network around 1:00PM on Feb 9

IST staff will replace the media converter at BWRC to try to solve the outgoing packet loss issue. It should take about 10-15 mins. BWRC outgoing network traffic will be affected. BWRC internal network traffic will still remain working. We will schedule about 1 hour maintenance window in case something unexpected occur. IRIS website down for maintenance Feb 3, 6pm

The IRIS website will be down tonight briefly for a server software upgrade, beginning at 6pm on Friday, February 3. Total downtime is expected to be less than 30 minutes.

EMERGENCY SCHED MAINTENANCE: potentially campus-wide impact

Equipment: inr-002 campus border router Location: potentially campus-wide impact Date: thu 2 feb 2012 Start: 1500 End: 1600

Description: an FPC (interface module) in inr-002, one of UCB’s two border routers connecting to the CalREN networks, has failed and must be replaced. i’m scheduling an emergency maintenance window 1500-1600 tomorrow, thu 2 feb 2012, for swapping out the failed FPC with a replacement unit. (this assumes the replacement FPC will arrive early enough tomorrow for the scheduled maintenance window.)

FPCs are hot-swappable (and the one currently in the router is already offline), so i don’t anticipate any disruption to campus’s external connectivity. however, to be doubly sure, i will have previously moved all external traffic off this router and onto inr-001, the redundant border router.

EECS-Secure unavailable in Sutardja Dai Hall

The EECS-Secure SSID for wifi in Sutardja Dai Hall was visible, but not working; other SSIDs such as AirBears and EECS-Open were operational during this period.

The authentication mechanism was reset and service has been restored.

discontinuing 802.11b data rates on wireless network

As of December 31st, 2011, IST will no longer support 802.11b data rates on the AirBears wireless network. EECS networks will continue to function as a fallback for 802.11b devices until January 31st, 2012; at which time we will also discontinue 802.11b.

EECS Wireless Network Maintenance on Jan 13

On Friday Jan 13th at 6:30AM, we will be applying new certificates on the EECS wireless AP controllers. During this maintenance window from 6:30-9:00AM, you may experience some wireless
intermittent issues including Soda, Cory, Sutardja Dai,BWRC, and portions of HMMB. The work should take less 30 mins for each building,but we are reserving 2.5 hours maintenance window in the event of unexpected problems.

Jan 2012 Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, Jan 10, 2012.

PRINT, WDS and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, Jan 11, 2012, at 3:00 am.



WINTERM will be unavailable till 10:00am Jan 11th, 2012.

EECS Wireless Network

In order to apply the new certificate for EECS-Open, all of wireless ap controllers will be rebooted one by one between 8:50-10:00am on Jan 2 2012. You may experience some intermittent wireless issues. Please let us know if you still can’t connect to wireless network after that. You can send the email to networks@eecs to report the issue if necessary.
