We are performing firewall load testing today, to help prevent additional incidents as we have seen in the last couple weeks. There will be intermittent moments of poor network performance at the EECS border as this occurs. We are watching closely to insure the interruptions are as few and as brief as possible.

Slowness for services that use LDAP authentication
We are currently seeing slowness in services that use LDAP authentication. This affects any services that prompt for LDAP login, such as our network registration forms, our Jabber server, and any EECS LDAP-authenticated websites.

July 2014 Server Patching
Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, July 8th, 2014.
PRINT and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, July 9th, at 3:00 am.
WINTERM will be unavailable till 10:00am Wednesday July 9th.

Degraded performance for some project shares
Our Network Appliance filer in Sutardja Dai Hall has been experiencing performance issues since late afternoon Thursday. Chiefly affected are users of project shares on cluster.eecs or the Instructional group’s inst-fs.eecs.
Staff are working to restore service.

Mail List, Web Server maintenance, June 30 6pm
The Department’s mailing list server (lists.eecs.berkeley.edu) and web servers (www.eecs.berkeley.edu, apps.eecs.berkeley.edu) will be patched and rebooted tonight, June 30 2014, at 6pm. Downtime is expected to be less than 10 minutes.
During this outage the web interfaces will be unavailable, and incoming and outgoing mail will be temporarily delayed. No mail will be lost.

login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU will be down for patching and needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some Oracle patches.
Though the scheduled downtime is 6:30am to 8am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

Packet Loss at EECS Network Border
We are seeing some dropped connections between the EECS network and the outside world (including the rest of campus). This is affecting communication in both directions.
You may experience symptoms such as webpages not loading, systems not responding to ping, and remote login sessions terminating unexpectedly.
Our network staff will work to identify the cause, and restore reliable networking.
