EECS Wireless Network Upgrades, Outages, and Changes

August 30, 2014 by Derek Calderon

On Saturday, August 30th, between 11AM and 6PM, we will be replacing the EECS wireless controllers with newer models. As a result, all wireless networks in all EECS locations will be offline during the upgrade. The wired network will not be affected.

Networks affected: EECS, EECS-Secure, EECS-Open, EECS-Guest, EECS-Robonet, EECS-Viper, 326capture, 540capture, AirBears, AirBears2, attwifi.

Locations affected: Soda Hall, Cory Hall, Sutardja Dai Hall, Calvin Lab, Blum Hall, Sibley Auditorium, Hearst Memorial Mining Building

Additionally, the following changes are being made to EECS wireless network offerings:

EECS: this network will be renamed to EECS-PSK and the security protocol will be changed from WEP to WPA2-PSK, which is much more secure. The preshared key (password) used to access the network will not change.

EECS-Open: this network will no longer be offered.

326capture and 540capture: these networks are being merged into a single network called EECS-Capture. The preshared key will not change.

Simons: the Simons SSID will no longer be offered.

Please direct any questions or concerns to help@eecs.berkeley.edu.

UPDATE

[2014-08-30 14:22:47 | Derek Calderon]

The majority of the wireless upgrades and changes have been completed, the new SSID offerings are now in place, and the EECS wireless networks are once again online.

There is an ongoing issue with AirBears2 authentication, and we have contacted IST’s oncall staff in hopes of coming to a quick solution.

This news post will be updated once more when all networks, including AirBears2, are fully operational.

UPDATE

[2014-08-30 15:25:08 | Derek Calderon]

All upgrades and changes have been completed, and all wireless networks in all EECS locations are now fully operational as of 3PM.

Please see the original post for details about changes to wireless network offerings.

If you have any problems, questions, or concerns, please contact help@eecs.berkeley.edu
