We’re getting reports of widespread intermittent loss of network connectivity, including EECS-Secure being down. Staff are working to determine the source of the problem.

login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU will be down for patching and needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some Oracle patches.
Though the scheduled downtime is 6:30am to 8am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

Approximately 4AM this evening, we lost contact with the access switch in the Nanolab on the 6th floor of Sutardja Dai Hall. We presume the network to be down at this time, and network staff will begin diagnosis as soon as they arrive onsite. This should affect users in the 6th floor area of the Nanolab only, as the rest of SDH uses separate switches.

On Wednesday evening at 6PM, we will be performing maintenance on the EECS firewall in order to to reinsert the primary device (which failed during the January power maintenance) into the production cluster. Per the vendor, no interruption in service is expected; however, in the event of unforeseen complications Internet connectivity may be lost to the department for some time.

We plan to failover to the backup uplink for the fifth floor of Soda Hall in order to troubleshoot a network issue. This action will be taken on February 3 around 6:00PM and it should take less than 5 minutes. No service interruption is expected, but in the event of a failure there may be a brief (5 minute) outage for some areas of the fifth floor. The failover will be complete by 6:15PM; if you are experiencing an outage after this time please email help@eecs.berkeley.edu.

For 2015, Matlab licensing is being funded by a campus consortium that includes the College of Engineering. This year, Matlab licensing has been extended to include student use on personally-owned devices.
If you need to obtain Matlab in 2015, or to renew your Matlab license, please go to https://software.berkeley.edu/matlab and click on the relevant license request link. You will not be charged.
We recommend requesting Stand-Alone licenses when installing on laptops or personally-owned devices. Network licenses (where the client needs to contact the campus license server) may be used by machines on campus networks.
