October 2021 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, October 13th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, October 13th, depending on additional software updates.

Cory Hall Network Outage, 9/17/21

The Cory Hall network was offline from about 12:29 – 12:40 due to a malfunction in the building core switch. The issue has been resolved.

Various Linux servers (login, dhcp, DNS, NTP) downtime Wednesday September 15, 2021 06:30-07:15am

Various Linux servers will be down for patching and needed reboots to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU is scheduled for downtime from 6:30am to 7am.

The departmental dhcp server is scheduled for downtime from 6:30am to 7am.

cronus one of the departmental DNS and time servers is scheduled for downtime from 6:45am-7:00am.

rhea the other departmental DNS and time server is scheduled for downtime from 7:00am-7:15am.

We expect actual downtimes to be less than scheduled.

DNS Resolution Issues, 8/31/21

We are currently seeing an issue where eecs.berkeley.edu, cs.berkeley.edu, banatao.berkeley.edu, and possibly other related DNS names are not resolvable from campus networks or from the Internet. As a result, many websites appear down and emails may bounce.

We have contacted IST, who operate the DNS servers that answer these requests from non-EECS networks, and they are investigating.

Name resolution from EECS networks using EECS DNS resolvers is working properly.

Network Maintenance Sun. 8/29 6AM

We will be performing a needed firmware upgrade on the Soda Hall core router at 6AM on Sunday, August 29th. This will cause a disruption of all traffic in and out of the EECS network, as well as traffic between the various Soda Hall networks. We expect this outage will last for between 5 and 20 minutes.

Partial network outage, Soda 7th floor, 8/19/21

Wireless networks on the 7th floor of Soda Hall were offline beginning at 17:31 yesterday (8/18) due to a faulty switch PoE module. Unfortunately, we were not made aware of this until about 15:00 today.

We have replaced the faulty switch, and service was restored around 17:30.

Partial network outage, Cory first floor, 8/18/21

Network staff are aware of a partial network outage on the first floor of Cory Hall, and are investigating. The outage began at 9:41AM.

Update: Service has been restored as of 10:52AM.

IRIS applications & Mailing Lists maintenance Aug 12, 6pm

The IRIS Roster (account) and Network applications, and the EECS Mailing List server lists.eecs.berkeley.edu, will be unavailable tonight from 6pm to approximately 6:30pm for routine maintenance.
