As of Monday, March 21, remote desktop access to winterm.eecs will be limited to on-campus hosts and VPN clients. To access winterm.eecs from off-campus after March 21, you will need to either use the campus VPN before connecting to winterm.eecs, or configure your Remote Desktop Connection to use the campus Remote Desktop Gateway service.

At 6AM on Monday, March 7, we will be migrating these wired networks to our new border firewall:
169.229.62.0/24 (Jacobs Hall)
169.229.63.0/25 (BiD Lab in HMMB)
There will be a brief interruption to these networks as they are migrated. After the migration, we encourage system administrators to test that traffic across the firewall is behaving as expected.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu with any questions or concerns.

Tomorrow morning, 2/25 at 6AM, we will be rebooting the Soda Hall core router in order to apply a configuration change which will resolve an issue currently affecting a small portion of network traffic. As a result, we expect most EECS network paths will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes beginning at 6AM. Some systems or services (e.g. nfs) may have connectivity issues and may need to be restarted or rebooted after this maintenance.

The Department Mailing List server, lists.eecs.berkeley.edu, will be down for maintenance beginning Thursday February 24th at 5pm. Service should be restored by 6pm at the latest. During this time, any incoming messages will be held and distributed after the server is back up.
This maintenance is to upgrade the back-end MySQL database, in preparation for an upgrade of the mailing list Sympa software next week. That maintenance will be separately announced.
Issues with RFC1918 Networks
There is currently no DHCP or DNS service on the RFC1918 networks (10.x.x.x) as a result of this morning’s maintenance. This is primarily affecting printers in Soda, Cory and Sutardja Dai Halls. We are working on a fix and plan to deploy it this evening.

Cory Hall 2nd Floor networks went offline this afternoon, 2/22, at 12:51PM due to a malfunctioning switch. The switch was restored remotely and wired networking returned at 1:13PM. Wireless networking has not yet fully recovered and we are working on this.

At 6AM on Tuesday, February 22 at 6AM, we will be migrating a large number of networks to our new border firewall. This will affect the majority of wired networks in Soda, Cory, and Sutardja Dai Halls. EECS-Secure and EECS-PSK in all locations except BWRC will also be affected.
There will be a brief interruption to each of these networks as they are migrated. In addition, the ipv6 subnets used by EECS-Secure and EECS-PSK clients will change. You can read the full post below for details.
We encourage system administrators to test their systems on Tuesday morning after this maintenance is complete, to ensure their applications are being properly handled by the new firewall.

BWRC networks are offline since around 13:10 today due to an apparently external cause. Staff are going onsite to investigate.
Update: The issue self-resolved around 13:48, but we believe this to have been an outage of the AT&T circuit which currently serves BWRC. We have plans to move this link to a more stable service later this week.
