Resolved as of 2012-12-26 13:10:00
Schedule network maintenance during 2012 curtailment starting Dec 26th
We will perform network maintenance with expected brief outages on
Wednesday, December 26th. The changes and scheduled times are listed
below, however the times and durations are subject to change. When the
maintenance is complete we will post an update on IRIS News afterwards
will monitor email to help@eecs for network problem reports.
10am-11am, Cory Hall 2nd floor wired network migration
======================================================
Any activated port cables id that have not migrated from the 47 subnet
by Wednesday December 26, 2012 will be migrated then. Further
information is available at:
https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/news/7853-second-floor-cory-hall-iris
11am-12pm, BWRC campus link switched from Comcast to AT&T
=========================================================
The circuit that connects the Berkeley Wireless Reserach Center (BWRC)
will be switched from the current 100Mb Comcast link to a 1Gb AT&T
link. We expect the downtime will take less than 5 minutes, but have
scheduled an hour maintenance window for testing puroses and
unexpected problems (in the event of which we can switch back to the
Comcast link).
12pm-3pm, Firmware upgrade for EECS Wireless network
====================================================
New firmware will be applied to the EECS wireless network devices.
This will require a rolling reboot across all four wireless
controllers. You may experience wireless outages during this time,
however the wired network will be available.
Please report the issues to networks@eecs if you experience network
problems after the maintenance window is complete or if you have any
other concerns.

IT Support During Winter 2012 Energy Curtailment
Due to the Winter Holiday, Energy Curtailment, and New Year’s Holidays, the Berkeley campus is officially closed for the period Monday, December 24 to Tuesday, January 1st, reopening on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Additionally, many staff are expected to be out until Monday, January 7th.
All departmental computing servers will remain on and should be available during the break, but there will be no staff on site to provide any computing support or handle any requests. Automatic monitoring systems will alert staff to critical infrastructure problems, and any such problems will be dealt with on a best-effort basis. IRIS staff will be taking advantage of the holiday to do maintenance on some systems which will result in scattered outages, but any such downtime will be separately announced and posted on the IRIS website.
The IRIS Helpdesk will be closed beginning Friday December 21 at 3pm, and will reopen on January 2. Problem reports can be left on the Helpdesk voice mail (510-642-7777) or emailed to help@eecs, but staff may not receive or reply to these messages until January 2.
Requests for new IRIS accounts that are received after 3pm December 20 will be processed on January 2, 2013.
During the break, Instructional labs will be locked, but the main servers will remain online (imail.eecs, inst.eecs, cory.eecs, c199.eecs and fileservice.eecs). Instructional support staff will occasionally monitor inst@eecs email over the break. If you are unable to contact inst@eecs, you can leave a message at 510-643-6141. Please be aware, though, that staff may not be able to respond or reply to messages until January 2.
We recommend that all desktop computers be shutdown during the Energy Curtailment Period. If your Windows computer needs to stay on during the break, we recommend that you check with your system administrator to ensure that Automatic Updates are enabled with the option “Automatically download the updates and install them on the schedule that I specify” with a daily update schedule.
Computing support staff will be monitoring their email when possible, so please use standard email addresses to report any urgent problems. As a reminder:
* Instructional Computing Environment: inst@eecs
* Research / Staff Computing Environment: help@eecs
Enjoy your holiday break!
