The department Mathematica license has expired and the new license was incompatible with our license server. Staff are in touch with Wolfram to get a new copy of the license.

Partial Power Failure in 165 Cory Machine Room
Due to a Power Distribution Unit or the UPS failure in 165 Cory Machine Room, there is limited to some servers located on the east side of that room.
The Building Manager has a call in to campus to fix the PDU and we’re in a holding pattern until then. Building and technical staff are working to restore everything as soon as possible.

Temporary campus power outage Nov 29
IST reports that a number of campus buildings experienced a temporary power outage this morning, including Cory, Soda, and other College of Engineering buildings.
Staff are working to ensure that services are restored to normal.

login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU will be down for patching and needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some Oracle patches.
Though the scheduled downtime is 6:30am to 8am, we expect actual downtime to be much less.

Second floor Cory Hall IRIS wired network change
What:
The 128.32.47.0/24 wired network on the second floor of Cory Hall
is being replaced by the 169.229.34.0/24 network.
When:
This change of network has begun and will be completed by
Wednesday December 26, 2012.
We encourage folks to have their activated port cables ids and
devices connected to the network on the second floor of Cory Hall
migrated to the new network now.
Any activated port cables id that have not migrated to the
new network by Wednesday December 26, 2012 will be migrated then.
How:
You can check via the “Port Search” and “Advanced Port Search”
IRIS Network Management forms at
to see if your activated second floor Cory Hall
port cable id is activated on the old network (128.32.47.0/24)
or whether it has already been migrated to the new
network (169.229.34.0/24). The IRIS help desk
(help@eecs, 395 Cory M-F 9:30am-5pm, 642-7777) can
help you with this.
If you are ready to have your port cable id and device(s)
migrated now or anytime before Wednesday December 26, 2012
please follow the procedure described below.
The network migration will be rather easy for most devices.
For devices that lease a non-fixed IP address from the
IRIS dhcp server (and get all network related information from
the dhcp server), these devices might only require
releasing and then renewing their dhcp lease or at most
might require a reboot. If these devices have any special
host based firewall rules that refer to the 128.32.47.0/24
network, an update of those firewall rules may be appropriate.
For devices with a fixed IP address (/ fixed DNS name),
that get all their network information from the IRIS dhcp
server, the migration to the new network will be similar
to the migration for devices that lease a non-fixed IP address
(as mentioned above) after the submitted “Update a Device”
form is processed.
For devices with a fixed IP address that have their
network information statically configured instead of
assigned via the IRIS dhcp server, the static information
will need to be updated after the submitted “Update a Device”
form is processed.
Procedure:
Please submit an “Update a Device” form for your
non-mobile device(s) and note in the
“Comments on this request:” area of
the second page of the form that they you are “ready to
migrate to the new network” and to please also specify if
you do not want this migration to happen by the next
working day.
Why:
Usage of the IRIS EECS-Secure wireless network continues
to increase. We plan to expand the number of available IPv4
addresses for the IRIS EECS-Secure wireless network on
the 128.32.44.0/23 network to a 128.32.44.0/22 network.
To perform the expansion, we need to re-purpose the
128.32.47.0/24 network currently be using for wired
networking on the second floor of Cory Hall.

Unplanned network outage in part of the 3rd floor of Cory Hall due to switch failure
Unplanned network outage in part of the 3rd floor of Cory Hall due to switch failure. Wired and wireless access is affected. We are working to restore access to wireless by moving to a different switch.
We have contacted the vendor for a replacement and will re-route wired connectivity if the outage on this device will be for an extended period of time.
