Jan 2014 Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, Jan 14th, 2014.

PRINT and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, Jan 15th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM will be unavailable till 10:00am Wed, Jan 15, for application upgrading.

Update Department MatLab License Servers

On January 7th, 2014, the EECS MatLab license server will be updated. This change will take effect at 3am when the EECS DNS servers reload. This is the first step in a multi step process to reorganize our MatLab licenses servers.

The department is running two MatLab license servers, one that supports MatLab through version 2011, and a new one that will support old and newer versions of MatLab. This is the first step to retire the old server.

If you experience any difficulty after the update, please do not hesitate to contact us at help@eecs. We are prepared to resolve licensing issues quickly.

MatLab Licensing and Funding

IS&T Software Distribution is sending UCB wide messages regarding UCB wide MatLab Licensing. These messages may not apply to the EECS MatLab licensing. EECS is in discussion with IS&T Software Distribution regarding our licensing and funding model. Please disregard the UCB wide messages.

Regardless of our ongoing conversation MatLab licensing will not be disrupted.

EECS will communicate our licensing and funding model when its finalized.

Dec 2013 Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, December 10th 2013.

PRINT and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, December 11th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM will be unavailable till 10:00am December 11th.

We will also take this opportunity to upgrade the memory in print.eecs. PRINT will be unavailable till 8:00am December 11th.

Investigating network problems connecting to services outside of EECS

We are investigating what seems to be a network outage affecting the department; network resources internal to the EECS network are reachable, but connecting outside of the EECS network (to campus and beyond) is experiencing problems. There seems to be high packet loss.

9am Oct 9 maintenance on department filers

At 9am on Wednesday, October 8th, the department filers home, project, as well as BWRC filers hitz and hitz2 will have a proactive parts replacement with a NetApp technician. The maintenance should be non-disruptive, although some windows mounts may need to be re-mounted.

Oct 2013 Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, Oct 8th, 2013.

PRINT and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, Oct 9th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00am Oct 9th. This depends on the needed level of application updates in addition to the operating system updates.

Cluster.eecs and instfs connection to backup power

The new UPS in 158 SDH is now ready for service, and a backup power connection will be added to cluster.eecs and instfs.eecs on Oct 7th at 7pm. No service interruption is anticipated, though some Windows shares may need to be re-mounted.

EECS Mailing List Service down

The web interface to the EECS Mailliist service went down at around 4:04AM. Attempts to restart it uncovered other problems which staff are now investigating.
