Update Department MatLab License Servers

January 7, 2014 by IRIS Staff

On January 7th, 2014, the EECS MatLab license server will be updated. This change will take effect at 3am when the EECS DNS servers reload. This is the first step in a multi step process to reorganize our MatLab licenses servers.

The department is running two MatLab license servers, one that supports MatLab through version 2011, and a new one that will support old and newer versions of MatLab. This is the first step to retire the old server.

If you experience any difficulty after the update, please do not hesitate to contact us at help@eecs. We are prepared to resolve licensing issues quickly.

Problems with various EECS services due to electrical work

February 24, 2011 by IRIS Staff

Due to work related to the installation of a new UPS, damage occurred to cabling used by the EECS Storage systems, causing unplanned downtime for a variety of EECS services, including:

* EECS Home Directories and Project space (should be back up)
* Unix Login Server – login.eecs (rebooted)
* DHCP (back up)
* Departmental Webserver (rebooting)
* Matlab licensing (still down)
* EECS IM/Jabber (still down)
* EECS Mailing lists – lists.eecs (still down)

Staff are working to bring these services and others back up now.

Matlab license renewal

November 1, 2009 by IRIS Staff

IRIS staff have been working for several months to renew EECS department Matlab licenses.

IST is responsible for license agreements with Mathworks and distributes Matlab license to individuals and departments. IST has assured us that our renewal has been processed, and that there is a 30-day “grace period” after the license expires on January 1st.

We understand Matlab is a critical tool for many researchers, and we are doing everything we can to prevent the license from expiring.

Matlab license expired

February 2, 2009 by Lars Rohrbach

Our departmental Matlab license expired January 31, 2009.

We are still awaiting an updated license from central campus, who had assured us that the existing license would operate under a 30-day grace period.

IRIS staff will work with campus to expedite our license replacement.

Matlab License Renewed (until 2/2/09)

February 1, 2008 by IRIS Staff

Due to a misunderstanding, IST thought that there was a 30 days grace period built into the license file, and so they thought the license file wouldn’t expire until 03/01/08. But as it turned out, that wasn’t true.

As a result, the matlab license server was down on 02/02/08 and 02/03/08.

The matlab license file has been renewed to 02/01/09.

We apologize for any inconvenience for the matlab downtime.

Matlab/Mathematica License Server Down

October 8, 2007 by Lars Rohrbach

The EECS license server for Matlab and Mathematica licenses unexpectedly went offline at about 1:30pm. Staff are investigating.

We will post further information as it becomes available. Until the license service is restored, users will not be able to check out departmental licenses for Matlab or for Mathematica.
