Mathematica license expired Dec 1 2013
The department’s Mathematica license has expired. IRIS staff are in the process of renewing it.
This was an unfortunate oversight. We are taking steps to ensure we are reminded in the future before the license actually expires.

Phishing Attack in EECS
An email with the subject “validate and upgrade to our new Mail hub system.” has been sent to many addresses in EECS. This email includes a link to a website with “txstate.edu” in its URL. This is a phishing attack and should be ignored and deleted.
Nov 2013 Server Patching
Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, Nov 12th, 2013.
PRINT and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, Nov 13, 2013, at 3:00 am.

login.eecs downtime Wednesday October 30, 2013 06:30-08:00am
login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU will be down for patching and needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some Oracle patches.
Though the scheduled downtime is 6:30am to 8am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

expired SSL certificate on gateway.EECS.Berkeley.EDU
We regret the inconvenience.
Though a new SSL certificate was installed on gateway on October 1, 2013, not all the appropriate processes were restarted at that time.

Investigating network problems connecting to services outside of EECS
We are investigating what seems to be a network outage affecting the department; network resources internal to the EECS network are reachable, but connecting outside of the EECS network (to campus and beyond) is experiencing problems. There seems to be high packet loss.

9am Oct 9 maintenance on department filers
At 9am on Wednesday, October 8th, the department filers home, project, as well as BWRC filers hitz and hitz2 will have a proactive parts replacement with a NetApp technician. The maintenance should be non-disruptive, although some windows mounts may need to be re-mounted.

Exchange Server FONTUS offline
EECS Exchange server FONTUS is currently offline. Staff are investigating. This may be due in part to an unintended reboot following application of Microsoft patches.

Degraded network in Cory Hall
Wired and wireless networking in Cory Hall are currently operating in a degraded state due to a network traffic issue. Network staff are currently onsite investigating and the network on the third floor has been disabled for diagnostic purposes. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to correct the issue as soon as possible.
