dhcp server downtime Wednesday December 9, 2015 07:00-07:30 am

The departmental dhcp server will be down for a needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

Though the scheduled downtime is 7:00am to 7:30am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

Network Maintenance Outage, Tuesday 12/8 9PM

There will be maintenance outages of the Soda and Sutardja Dai Hall networks on Tuesday, December 8th at 9PM in order to apply a vendor-suggested software update to the main routers for those buildings. The update is intended to fix a bug regarding in-band SSH management of the routers. The wired and wireless networks in each building will be unavailable while the update is being applied.

A similar upgrade was performed in Cory Hall on November 17th with no issues.

Each outage is expected to last for less than ten minutes. Please contact help@eecs.berkeley.edu with any questions or concerns.

Dec 2015 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, December 8th, 2015.

PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, December 9th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, December 9th, depending on additional software updates.

EECS Website Problems

After the scheduled maintenance on our fileserver this evening, our web server is having problems reading files from the server, causing outages to many web pages. Staff are working on the problem.

NetApp filer upgrade on December 1

As part of our preparation for migration to new NetApp file storage hardware, we will be upgrading the OS on our existing Network Appliance file servers at 5pm Tuesday, December 1.

The OS will be upgraded from Data ONTAP version 8.1.2 to 8.2.4. Upgrade will be performed for project.eecs and home.eecs first, and then for cluster.eecs and inst-fs.eecs.

No general service interruption is expected, as our servers are configured in High-Availability pairs. Windows/SMB/CIFS users may experience a hiccup, if they have an active file transfer at the time of the upgrade; such a file transfer would terminate and need to be restarted.

Work is expected to be complete by 6:30pm.

IRIS Roster & Network Apps brief outage, Nov 23 7pm

The application server hosting the IRIS Roster and Network applications will be down for maintenance starting at 7pm on Monday, Nov 23. Operating system patches will be installed and the server rebooted. Service is expected to resume by 7:15pm.

Department Webserver Maintenance, Thursday Nov 19th 7pm

A number of security updates were released overnight for RedHat. The Department’s web server (www.eecs.berkekey.edu) and all IRIS-hosted web sites will be unavailable from about 7pm-7:15pm tonight while these patches are applied.
