EECS Internet Outage, 9/22/16

EECS’ Internet connection went down at approximately 6AM due to a loss of default routes normally advertised by campus BGP. The issue was isolated and the campus NOC restored the routes shortly before 10AM.

We believe network connectivity to be fully restored at this time. If you continue to experience issues, please email help@eecs.berkeley.edu.

Cory Hall Network Maintenance, 9/15/16

We will be reconfiguring one of the transit links out of Cory Hall tonight at 5PM. There will be no general network or service outages, but some services will have a brief interruption in connectivity:

* Private networks which transit between Cory and Soda Halls (TIER, CEC, Viper)
* Machines in Cory Hall on the 169.229.59.0/26 and 128.32.38.0/23 networks (not including EECS-PSK wireless clients)
* The primary departmental WINS (Windows Name Service) server, but the secondary will remain online

dhcp server downtime Thursday September 15, 2016 07:00-07:30am

The departmental dhcp server will be down for a needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

Though the scheduled downtime is 7:00am to 7:30am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

September 2016 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, September 13th, 2016.

PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, September 14th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, September 14th, depending on additional software updates.

Outgoing stmp service via gateway.eecs will not be available during scheduled maintenance on gateway.eecs beginning Wednesday September 7, 2013 06:30

Though the scheduled downtime is 6:30am to 7am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

A new SSL certificate with different intermediate SSL certificates is being installed.

Brief outages to various IRIS services, Sep 1, 6pm-7pm

Routine RedHat Linux operating system patches have been released which require system reboots. Starting at 6pm Thursday, September 1, IDSG will be patching and rebooting affected servers. The following services will experience brief outages of 10 minutes or less between 6pm and 7pm.

* Personal and Project web services (people.eecs, apps.eecs, and all IRIS-hosted project websites)
* Department mailing list services (lists.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* Department wiki service (wiki.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* Department ftp server (ftp.eecs / ftp.cs.berkeley.edu)
* Department jabber/xmpp service (jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* IRIS website (iris.eecs.berkeley.edu)

Emergency Reboot, Nanolab 3/4 Switch 8/22/16

We will be performing an emergency reboot of the switch which provides service to the third/fourth floors of the Sutardja Dai Nanolab at 12:15 PM today, in order to clear some bad state left over from this weekend’s upgrades. The third and fourth floors of the Nanolab will be without network connectivity for approximately five minutes.
