November 2016 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, November 8th, 2016.

PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, November 9th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, November 9th, depending on additional software updates.

dhcp server downtime Tuesday November 8, 2016 07:00-07:30am

The departmental dhcp server will be down for a needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

Though the scheduled downtime is 7:00am to 7:30am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

Network Outage, SDH 2-4th floors, 10/27/16

We have just experienced an outage of a main switch which serves wired and wireless on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of SDH. Network staff are investigating and will repair ASAP.

DNS issues Friday October 21, 2016

cronus and rhea (the IRIS recursive caching namesers)
have experienced some issues in resolving remote
DNS information today.

It is not clear if this is related to the DDOS (distributed
denial of service) attacks against Dyn. It appears
there have been a series of DDOS attacks against DYN today –
4am PST, ~9am PST and 1pm PST

165 Cory Network Outage, 10/21/16

The wired network in the 165 Cory server room will be offline from 8-10AM while switches are physically relocated.

All department services have redundant copies elsewhere and will not be affected. Private systems within 165 Cory will not have network connectivity.

Soda 5th Floor Wireless Outage, 10/17-18

The wireless network on half of the fifth floor of Soda Hall has been offline since yesterday morning. Trouble reports were received this morning and we are currently working to resolve the issue.

Brief outages to various IRIS services, Oct 12, 6pm-7pm

Routine RedHat Linux operating system patches have been released which require system restarts. Starting at 6pm Wednesday, Oct 12, IDSG will be patching and rebooting affected servers. The following services will experience brief outages of 10 minutes or less between 6pm and 7pm.

* Personal and Project web services (people.eecs, apps.eecs, and all IRIS-hosted project websites)
* Department mailing list services (lists.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* Department wiki service (wiki.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* Department ftp server (ftp.eecs / ftp.cs.berkeley.edu)
* Department jabber/xmpp service (jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* IRIS website (iris.eecs.berkeley.edu)
