Server patching on 9/12/07

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, September 11th, 2007.

HERMES, PRINT, RIS and WINSWW will be down for patching Wednesday, September 12, from 3:00p-5:00p.

macserver.eecs.berkeley.edu, which hosts the Mac software warehouse, will be down for maintenance at this time as well.

IRIS Website Offline for Update, 5:30pm Aug 30

The IRIS website (this very site) **will be offline briefly between 5:30p.m. and 6:30p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2007** in order to apply an update to the news publishing software.

Total downtime shouldn’t be more than 30 minutes.

Emergency Reboot of IRIS Webserver

The IRIS website server (iris.eecs.berkeley.edu) was rebooted at around 11:40am today, due to unforseen complications arising from the emergency network outage at 10:40am. Immediately prior to the reboot, you may have been unable to log in to network or roster database applications, and experienced a general slowness problem. IRIS staff apologizes for inconvenience. If you are still experiencing problems with this server, please contact help@eecs immediately.

Network Disruption

From about the time of the routing changes this morning in Soda, some systems have had trouble with NFS mounting of partitions from coeus and project. The problem appears to be isolated to specific systems. The problem does not affect all systems moved to a new router this morning. The problem does not appear to be reproducible on all systems on any specific network.

At least one affected client machine seems to be fixed after a reboot.

Staff are continuing to investigate this issue.

Network Outages in Soda Hall

There will be some brief network outages in **Soda Hall** on Thursday morning between 07:00–07:45. We will be changing the routing for the following subnets:

* 2nd floor
* 128.32.42.0/24
* 3rd floor
* 128.32.34.0/24
* 128.32.112.0/24
* 4th floor
* 128.32.37.0/24
* 128.32.132.0/24


I expect the outages to occur one at a time and each should be less than just a few minutes each as we transition the routes from the old router to the new infrastructure. I regret any inconvenience this may cause.

Brief network downtime in Cory

There will be some brief network outages in **Cory Hall** on Tuesday morning between 07:00-07:45. We will be changing the routing for the following subnets:

* 1st floor
* 128.32.48.0/24
* 128.32.32.0/24
* 2nd floor
* 128.32.47.0/24
* 3rd floor
* 128.32.41.0/24
* 128.32.43.0/24

Brief Wireless Outage

There will be a brief interruption in EECS wireless services on August 14 between 8:00AM to 08:30AM. RADIUS server will have a security upgrade. Outages should be quite brief. However, users of either the Guest or EECS-11a WLANs may need to reauthenticate. We regret any inconvenience this might cause.
