Fiber Optic Cutover

Tuesday morning at 6:00 am, we are working with IST to move a number of optical circuits in Soda Hall to a different fiber cable. This work is to facilitate the move of IST network equipment from Evans to Sutardja Dai Hall. Because our routers are configured with redundant paths, only the following areas will experience a brief outage, hopefully only a minute or so each.

AirBears experiencing some problems in Soda & Cory

We are currently experiencing some problems with the AirBears Wireless LAN in both Soda and Cory. AirBears in Sutardja-Dai Hall is not affected at this time. All other EECS WLANs are not affected. IST has been notified of the issue.

The problem appeared to be a defective cable connecting the Access manager to a media converter. The cable was replaced.

EECS Wireless Maintenance: Aug 19, 6:00AM

On Wed, Aug 19, we will be doing major upgrades to some of our wireless switches. This work will start at 6:00am to 8:00am. Users except BWRC will experience some outages. We expect that some of services will start coming back up in about 30 mins at varied locations. These upgrades are providing for the continuing reliability of the wireless infrastructure services.

Firmware upgrade: EECS border router

Tuesday July 14th at 7:00AM, we will be upgrading software on the EECS department border router. During the outage, all EECS networks will be disconnected from the Internet, including Soda, Cory, Sutardja Dai,BWRC, and portions of HMMB. The work should only take a few minutes,but we’re reserving a 30-minute window in case of problems.

Please plan accordingly.

Cory Router to Undergo Code Maintenance

On Tuesday July 7th at 6:30am, the main Cory Router will undergo code maintenance till 7am. This will affect ALL network activity in Cory Hall with the exception of a few hard wired ports in 2nd floor campus classrooms which are connected directly to the campus network.

If all goes well, the outage will only be for a few minutes and may not
even be noticed, but there are no guarantees.

BWRC wireless networking maintenance

There will be maintenance affecting BWRC
wireless networking starting Thursday
June 25, 2009 at 9:30 am. During the
maintenance, BWRC wireless clients will
not be able to get a new dhcp lease on the
IRIS wireless network. Devices that obtained a
dhcp lease prior to the maintenance will not
be affected. AirBears will not be affected.

Maintenance is scheduled to be completed by
10:30am, but if work goes as planned
it could be completed by 9:40am.

The existing dhcp server at BWRC providing
IRIS wireless support has a corrupted operating
system and will be replaced by another device
during the maintenance.

AirBears Disruption

The AirBears access manager serving Soda/Cory/BWRC/HMMB/Sibley malfunctioned; wireless clients were unable to get DHCP leases. The campus Wireless Network Engineer rebooted the controller at 10:40 and the service appears to be operating normally.
