Wireless Network Slowdowns

October 6, 2008 by IRIS Staff

Some locations for EECS supported wireless services were very slow or disrupted due to a controller issue. The areas affected were HMMB, BWRC, Brewed Awakenings and some of the upper floors of Soda. A controller reboot appears to have solved the issue.

AirBears In EECS

August 25, 2008 by IRIS Staff

AirBears wireless to some locations in EECS (particularly BWRC) was disrupted whereby AirBears clients could not get a lease. Other EECS WLANs were not affected. One wireless controller was shut down and all APs are back up on the other controllers. This may have resulted in a brief outage for some wireless clients.

We will do some more testing on the suspect controller tomorrow morning.

Cory Transformer Upgrade

June 4, 2008 by Lars Rohrbach

Physical Plant will be shutting off all the power to Cory Hall to switch
transformers on Wednesday night, June 4th from 7pm to 9pm. This will
allow upgrade of our back up transformer located in the basement. The
building will be closed from 6pm until 9pm for this event. Please ensure
your lab equipment and computers are prepared for this event.

Please contact Scott McNally for questions or Mark Davis (642-1468) in
room 253, Cory Hall.

Note that CUSG will be on-site during this time, and will coordinate the shutdown of CUSG-supported servers in Cory Hall, and later will get them back online when the power is restored.

CUSG will attempt to power-off all CUSG-supported Cory Hall workstations (Windows PCs and Linux workstations) starting at 5:30pm. CUSG will power-off all CUSG-supported Cory Hall servers beginning at 5:45pm. Some may be online as late as 6:30pm, as we continue shut-downs remotely. Servers will be brought back online as soon as power is restored.

Soda Hall computer services should continue normally.

AirBears/AirBearsBeyond Wireless Outage

February 20, 2008 by IRIS Staff

AirBears and AirBearsBeyond service went down last evening and magically came back about 03:00 this morning. All clients were unable to get a lease. IS&T is investigating the Soda Hall Access Manager again as this has happened before in recent weeks and is still a mystery. All EECS WLANs were unaffected.

EECS Network Outage

January 27, 2008 by IRIS Staff

From some time late last night until about 11:30 this morning, much of the EECS network was down due to a major power failure in the Soda Hall Network Center.

Two circuit breakers feeding both the power distribution system and the A/C tripped causing the outage. IDSG staff responded to the outage as did a UCB electrician who were able to restore power The electrician is investigating the cause but we don’t yet know what the cause was.

Thanks to many EECS staff who helped during this outage to get things going again.

Brief Wireless Outage

August 14, 2007 by Janet Shu

There will be a brief interruption in EECS wireless services on August 14 between 8:00AM to 08:30AM. RADIUS server will have a security upgrade. Outages should be quite brief. However, users of either the Guest or EECS-11a WLANs may need to reauthenticate. We regret any inconvenience this might cause.
