Network Border Maintenance, 2/7 6AM

At 6AM on Monday, Feb. 7, we will be disabling our old/legacy uplinks to the campus network. Our new uplinks were finalized last year and traffic has been using both pairs of links since then. As a result, we expect no impact from this maintenance.

Cancelled: Soda, Cory, and Wi-Fi Firewall Migrations, 2/7 6AM

Update 2/2: We are postponing this work due to some conflicts that have arisen. There will be a new post for the new maintenance window, but we are currently targeting 2/14.


At 6AM on Monday, February 7th, we will be migrating a number of networks to our new border firewall. This will affect many wired networks in Soda and Cory Halls, as well as EECS wireless in all locations except BWRC.

There will be a brief interruption to each of these networks as they are migrated. In addition, the ipv6 subnets used by EECS-Secure and EECS-PSK clients will change. You can read the full post below for details.

Cory Hall Firewall Migrations, 1/31 6AM

At 6AM on Monday, January 31, we will be migrating these networks to our new border firewall:

128.32.48.0/24 (Cory Hall 1st floor wired)
128.32.134.0/24 (Cory Hall 1st floor Mezzanine wired)
169.229.34.0/24 (Cory Hall 2nd floor wired)
128.32.171.0/24 (Cory Hall areas 545 and 550A)

There will be a brief interruption to these networks as they are migrated. After the migration, we encourage system administrators to test that traffic across the firewall is behaving as expected.

Soda Hall Firewall Changes, Mon. 1/24 6AM

At 6AM on Monday, January 24, we will be migrating these two Soda Hall networks to our new border firewall:

128.32.153.0/24 (Soda Hall 7th floor wired)
128.32.168.0/24 (Soda Hall 6th floor wired)

EECS Network Outage, 1/18

Most network paths were unavailable today between approx. 13:10 – 13:20 due to a router crash apparently caused by a routine procedure. We are investigating why this occurred. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any continuing issues.

Various Linux servers (login, dhcp, DNS, SMTP, NTP) downtime Tuesday January 19, 2022 06:30-07:45 am

Various Linux servers will be down for patching and needed reboots to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU is scheduled for downtime from 6:30am to 7am.

The departmental dhcp server is scheduled for downtime from 6:30am to 7am.

cronus one of the departmental DNS and time servers is scheduled for downtime from 6:45am-7:00am.

rhea the other departmental DNS and time server is scheduled for downtime from 7:00am-7:15am.

The departmental authenticating outgoing SMTP server gateway.eecs is scheduled for downtime from 7:30am to 7:45am.

We expect actual downtimes to be less than scheduled.

January 2022 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022. PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, January 12th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, January 12th, depending on additional software updates.

Sutardja Dai Hall Network Disruption, 1/6/22

Sutardja Dai Hall networks experienced a number of interruptions and outages this morning between 6:44 and 11:21, as a result of electrical maintenance in the building which we were not informed of in advance.

We believe the network to be fully recovered at this time. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any ongoing issues.

Mailing lists maintenance, Dec 22 6pm

The IRIS Mailing List Server lists.eecs.berkeley.edu will be undergoing routine maintenance tonight, Dec 22, beginning at 6pm. The server should be back no later than 6:30pm. The web interface will be unavailable during this time, and any mail sent to a list on lists.eecs.berkeley.edu will be held and distributed after the server is back up.

Dept NetApp Filer Maintenance, 3pm January 3, 2022

We will be performing an OS upgrade on our departmental NetApp filers (upgrading from OnTAP version 9.7 to 9.8), which will require a service outage from 3pm to 9pm on Monday, January 3, 2022. All NFS and CIFS access to the filer (home and project storage) will be down during that time. Services (e.g. webservice) that depend on this storage will also be down or unresponsive.

While we are scheduling a 6 hour maintenance window, we will attempt to minimize the service outage if possible.

When maintenance is completed, NFS clients should automatically resume normal operation. CIFS clients (such as Windows and MacOS) may need to remount filesystems, or simply be rebooted.
