AirBears maintenance and upgrade Jan 18th 6am-7am

Location: Sutardja Dai Hall, Blum Hall, Soda Hall, Cory Hall, Hearst Mining

Date: January 18th, 2013 Start: 06:00 am End: 07:00 am

Description: The “AirBears” network in Sutardja Dai, Blum Hall, Soda Hall, Cory Hall, and parts of Heart Mining will be interrupted during this outage. This outage is to move connections in Sutardja Dai to more modern switches. The EECS wireless networks in these buildings will remain in normal operation.

Connections on the 2 PPCS subnets below will be interrupted in Sutardja Dai (CITRIS), Soda Hall and Blum Hall. 128.32.211.0/27 , Evans zone PPCS user net, PPCS 10.129.128.0/25 , Evans zone PPCS 1918 net, PPCS

Five data connections on the Sutardja Dai Zone Cobalt net, 10.254.244.0/24 , will be affected. These 5 data lines are all in room 171 Sutardja Dai.

Thursday January 10 IRIS wireless maintenance

We will be performing maintenance on the IRIS wireless networks on Thursday January 10, 2013 from 6:30 am to 8:30am. During this planned maintenance period, devices may experience a brief interruption of wireless service. This maintenance concerns expansion of one of the EECS-Secure networks from a 128.32.44.0/23 network to a 128.32.44.0/22 network. This maintenance will affect all the wireless controllers in Cory Hall and Sutardja Dai Hall and devices using the EECS-Secure network in Cory Hall and Sutardja Dai Hall.

There may be a minor interruption to other wireless networks supported by these controllers in Cory Hall and Sutardja Dai Hall (EECS, EECS-Open, EECS-Guest and AirBears).

There may be a minor interruption to services provided by cronus and rhea (DNS, NIS and time).

If you lose wireless service during this maintenance, please try to release and renew your dhcp lease or restart your networking.

We expect the actual work to take less than the two hours allocated for the work.

Unexpected network flood

There was an unexpected impact to the wired and wireless networks at approximately 4pm causing significant packet loss. IRIS staff has isolated the problem and is in the process of restoring impacted services. A configuration change by IT staff to the network was the enabler that allowed hosts from the server room to flood the network.

Schedule network maintenance during 2012 curtailment starting Dec 26th

We will perform network maintenance with expected brief outages on
Wednesday, December 26th. The changes and scheduled times are listed
below, however the times and durations are subject to change. When the
maintenance is complete we will post an update on IRIS News afterwards
will monitor email to help@eecs for network problem reports.

10am-11am, Cory Hall 2nd floor wired network migration

Any activated port cables id that have not migrated from the 47 subnet
by Wednesday December 26, 2012 will be migrated then. Further

11am-12pm, BWRC campus link switched from Comcast to AT&T
=========================================================
The circuit that connects the Berkeley Wireless Reserach Center (BWRC)
will be switched from the current 100Mb Comcast link to a 1Gb AT&T
link. We expect the downtime will take less than 5 minutes, but have
scheduled an hour maintenance window for testing puroses and
unexpected problems (in the event of which we can switch back to the
Comcast link).

12pm-3pm, Firmware upgrade for EECS Wireless network

New firmware will be applied to the EECS wireless network devices.
This will require a rolling reboot across all four wireless
controllers. You may experience wireless outages during this time,
however the wired network will be available.

Please report the issues to networks@eecs if you experience network
problems after the maintenance window is complete or if you have any
other concerns.

Temporary campus power outage Nov 29

IST reports that a number of campus buildings experienced a temporary power outage this morning, including Cory, Soda, and other College of Engineering buildings.

Staff are working to ensure that services are restored to normal.

Unplanned network outage in part of the 3rd floor of Cory Hall due to switch failure

Unplanned network outage in part of the 3rd floor of Cory Hall due to switch failure. Wired and wireless access is affected. We are working to restore access to wireless by moving to a different switch.

We have contacted the vendor for a replacement and will re-route wired connectivity if the outage on this device will be for an extended period of time.
