cronus down time – no NIS, time or DNS service Tuesday March 27, 2018 7am-7:30am

cronus will not be providing NIS, time and DNS services
starting at 7am Tuesday March 27, 2018.

A new server will become cronus shortly after 7am.

Though the scheduled downtime is 7am to 7:30am, we expect actual
downtime to be less. Devices on the IRIS networks
should be able to use rhea for NIS, time and DNS services
while cronus is down.

Network Outage, 3/16/18

The EECS network’s connection to campus and the Internet was offline for about 30 minutes due to a firewall protocol failure during a configuration change that should not have been disruptive. The error was corrected and the network is restored.

March 2018 Linux Server Patching, Wednesday March 14 6pm

Routine Red Hat Linux operating system patches have been released which require system reboots. Starting at 6pm Wednesday, March 14 2018, IDSG will be patching and rebooting affected servers. The following services will experience brief outages of 10 minutes or less between 6pm and 7pm.

* Department mailing list services (lists.eecs.berkeley.edu)
* Department website content hosted on www2.eecs.berkeley.edu
* Department ftp server (ftp.eecs / ftp.cs.berkeley.edu)

March 2018 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, March 13th, 2018.

PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, March 14th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, March 14th, depending on additional software updates.

EECS Network Border Outage 3/8/18

EECS Network Border Filtering Coming Soon

We plan on implementing greater security measures at the EECS network border in the near future. Specifically, ingress and egress filtering similar to what is described in RFC2827 / BCP38.

This filtering is designed to block two types of traffic:
* traffic leaving EECS, which has a source IP outside of valid EECS IP space
* traffic entering EECS, which has a source IP within EECS IP space

This will prevent spoofed IP traffic from entering or leaving the department network.

If your work or research relies on spoofed IP packets, in the ingress or egress directions, please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu so that we can work with you to find a solution.
