rhea down time – no NIS, time or DNS service Tuesday April 24, 2018 7:15am-7:45am

rhea will not be providing NIS, time and DNS services starting at 7:15 am Tuesday April 24, 2018.

A new server will become rhea shortly after 7:15 am.
This upgrade is similar to the cronus upgrade last month.

Though the scheduled downtime is 7:15am to 7:45am, we expect actual downtime to be less. Devices should be able to use
cronus for NIS, time and DNS services while rhea is down.

cronus pne of the departmental DNS, NIS and time servers will be down for a needed reboot to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

Though the scheduled downtime is 6:45am to 7:00am, we expect actual downtime to be less.

jabber.eecs SSL certificate was updated

The SSL certificate on the Department’s jabber/xmpp server jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu expired at 5pm on April 23 2018. It was replaced around 6:45pm. During that window, people attempting to connect would have received an error that the SSL certificate was invalid.

The new certificate has these properties: * Serial Number: 00:de:f4:8a:a1:d8:0c:0b:69:88:21:b4:82:2c:d1:da:e2
* Expiration Date: Mar 27 23:59:59 2020 GMT
* SHA-256 Fingerprint 10:59:4E:2E:D1:37:7E:92:1D:0D:BE:3C:E1:72:CF:6A:5B:4C:62:55:88:59:0E:5F:CC:3A:51:1B:03:AB:B0:B8

Fileserver maintenance 10apr18

This should be mainly non disruptive, but be forewarned in case of mount issues.

Any CIFs shares will experience a disconnect but upon reconnect it should reconnect to the the other HA node. If someone is doing a copy over a share they will have to restart that.

April 2018 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, April 10th, 2018.

PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, April 11th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, April 11th, depending on additional software updates.

Network slowness, dropped packets

Staff are investigating widespread reports of network slowness and dropped packets.

Network traffic solely within EECS networks appears to be fine, but network traffic traveling past the EECS border to campus or beyond is incurring significant packet loss. It is unclear at this time whether the problem exists on the EECS side or the campus side.

jabber.eecs SSL certificate update

The Department’s Jabber/XMPP server jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu will have a new SSL certificate installed tonight at 5pm as the current certificate is due to expire. No outage is expected but some clients may complain. Try restarting your chat client if you experience any problems.
