Rolling Wi-Fi Outages, 5/18 – 5/28

Beginning Tuesday, May 18th, we will be performing wi-fi upgrades in all EECS network service areas (except BWRC and HMMB). Work will generally proceed floor-by-floor, with each building experiencing rolling wi-fi outages over a two to three day period. All wireless networks will be offline: EECS-Secure, EECS-PSK, AirBears2, eduroam, and CalVisitor.

Please see the schedule below for information specific to your building. If you are currently working on campus, and depend on the wireless network in these locations, please consider working from an alternate location during your building’s maintenance dates. We also recommend checking this post regularly in case of schedule changes.

May 2021 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, May 11th, 2021. PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, May 12th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, May 12th, depending on additional software updates.

EECS-PSK Scheduled Maintenance 5/7/21 8AM

This Friday, May 7th between 8 and 9AM, we will be performing scheduled maintenance of the EECS-PSK wireless network to prepare for our upcoming wi-fi refresh.

Update: This maintenance was completed without incident and the EECS-PSK network is back online. If you notice any issues, please email us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu.

Various Linux servers (login, dhcp, DNS, SMTP, NTP) downtime Tuesday May 4, 2021 06:30-07:45am

Various Linux servers will be down for patching and needed reboots to activate changes delivered by some RHEL patches.

login.EECS.Berkeley.EDU is scheduled for downtime from 6:30am to 7am.

The departmental dhcp server is scheduled for downtime from 6:30am to 7am.

cronus one of the departmental DNS and time servers is scheduled for downtime from 6:45am-7:00am.

rhea the other departmental DNS and time server is scheduled for downtime from 7:00am-7:15am.

The departmental authenticating outgoing SMTP server gateway.eecs is scheduled for downtime from 7:5am to 7:45am.

We expect actual downtimes to be less than scheduled.

Cory Hall Network Outage 4/26

All Cory Hall networks are offline since 23:24 last night, due to an apparent electrical issue in the Cory network core.

As we have not received an immediate response from facilities services, network staff are preparing to go onsite to investigate.

Network outage

A possible Cory switch failure occurred at about 1:25pm this afternoon, affecting at least some machines on the first floor and mezzanine of Cory Hall. Network staff are aware, and will investigate.

Network Outage for Sutardja Dai, Blum, Calvin Halls

As of 2:21 pm, networking for Sutardja Dai, Blum, and Calvin Halls is offline. Staff are en route to campus for further investigation.

Update: network connectivity was fully restored at 6:00PM when certain hosts which were causing instability were removed from the network. We will follow up tomorrow with the sysadmins of these hosts to try and prevent future incidents.
