We are still having issues with the new server setup, so the deployment of the new servers is delayed for the time-being.

Follow-up SAN updates
Some of the issues with yesterday’s upgrade could not be resolved yesterday, so we’ll be addressing them today. We expect the services to stay up, but there could be minor delays/slowdowns or short outages.

Major Upgrades on June 6, 2009
On Saturday, June 6th, we will be doing major upgrades to some of our
backend systems. This work will start at 10 am. We expect that some of
services will start coming back up in about 3 hours, but due to the
complexity and extensiveness of the upgrades, the downtime may extend well
beyond the 3 hour mark. These upgrades are imperative for the continuing
reliability of the infrastructure services. We apologize for the
inconvenience.
The following services will be affected:
* Home directories
* Project space
* UNIX SWW
* Departmental/IDSG web servers
* IMAP (due to the additional work, IMAP will be down for an additional 2 hours)
* argus/login (UNIX login servers)
* Department websites www.eecs / www.cs and all hosted project sites
* Department mailing lists hosted on lists.eecs
* buffy and all ACG applications
* wikis hosted on wiki.eecs
* Department’s jabber server, jabber.eecs

AirBears Scheduled Outage, Soda and Cory Halls, June 10, 6:30-7:30am
SCHED OUTAGE AirBears at Soda and Cory Halls Wednesday, June 10, 2009 06:30am – 07:30am
Equipment: AirBears Access Manager, soda1am
Location: AirBears at Soda and Cory Halls
Date: Wednesday, June 10, 2009 Start: 06:30am End: 07:30am
Description:
In planning for the network equipment and cabling moves from Evans Hall to
Saturdja Dai Hall, a new path needs to be established from soda1am to
the router interface. To accomplish this, this network will be out of
service for about 20 minutes. There will be no network connections
via “AirBears” in Soda and Cory Halls during the outage, but the network
signal will still continue to be broadcast.
Although the outage should only take about 20 minutes, additional time (up
to 1 hour) has been scheduled for unforseen challenges.
Updates will be posted on the [IST Service Status Page](http://ucbsystems.org/).

Results from Winter 2008 IT Survey
The results of the EECS IT Survey are in and now available to the EECS community
https://www.surveymonkey.com/sr.aspx?sm=Hw0yMfwlQbBhqyHfA3u8emyIhFl9Yx66Gteu7R5p8PE_3d
There were 280 responses to the 1395 sent out, or ~20% response, lower than last year (30% response)
Some notable results:
* the majority of responses again came from grad students as grad students are the majority of our population
* the biggest decrease in satisfaction was with the email service which dropped 14 to 18 % from last year
* the biggest non-change was the continued dissatisfaction with webmail
* the great demand is for a revision control system
* more people are aware of and use the iris web site
* the process of getting hosts on the network continues to be difficult
* more users are using OSX and fewer are using Windows that the previous year
* the quality of support for the clusters has dropped
In addition, this year we took a sampling of questions and comments from the open dialog sections of the survey and have provided some responses:

Whitelist and blacklist management unavailable
The web interfaces to the EECS Barracuda Anti-Spam appliances (https://bc3.eecs.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/index.cgi and https://bc4.eecs.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/index.cgi) are used to manage whitelisted and blacklisted email addresses.
Currently, the login screens to these web interfaces are not allowing login, and instead respond with “Error: Invalid Username or Password”.
This appears to be a bug/problem unrelated to other recent problems we have had with IMAP and LDAP. Staff are taking the issue up with the vendor.
