HMMB BID center switch failure

January 30, 2010 by IRIS Staff

The fiber optic connection that provides network access to the BID center in Hearst Memorial Mining lost link at 8pm.

This is affecting all traffic to the 169.229.63.0/25 subnet as well as all wireless networks near the BID center, including AirBears.

An inquiry was sent to IST at 11:30pm.

UPDATE

[2010-01-31 20:52:44 | Mike Howard]

IST staff confirmed that hmmb4fes, a switch in Hearst Mining, failed at 8:03pm Saturday.

IST was planning to reload that switch on Monday night due to memory leaks, but unfortunately it failed before the scheduled maintenance window. Network engineers had to go to campus to reboot the switch; connectivity was restored at 8:14pm Sunday.

The wireless access point in 360 HMMB is still offline. IRIS staff will investigate on Monday morning.
