EECS Wireless RADIUS patching

February 3, 2010 by Janet Shu

On Wed, Feb 3rd from 8:00 to 9:00AM, there will be a patch to be applied for EECS department RADIUS server. Public facing services which depend on RADIUS are EECS-Secure, EECS-Open, and EECS-Guest authentication and accounting. We do not expect this work will cause an outage for these services, as the second, redundant server will remain operational during this time and should not be affected by this work. A one hour outage window has been scheduled in the event of unexpected problems.

Please contact with help@eecs or networks@eecs if you have any question.

Wireless Network Outage from 8:30AM to 9:30AM on Jan 10

January 10, 2010 by Janet Shu

EECS Wireless AP controllers will be upgraded with the newer version of firmware on Jan 10 (Sun) at 8:30AM.

We will reboot 3 AP controllers one by one. We will schedule the wireless network downtime for about 1 hour. Each controller will take about 20 mins or less to reboot. You may experience that the wireless network will be down for about 20 mins during 8:30AM-9:30AM. This upgrade will not affect wireless users in BWRC. During this time, the wired network will still work.

If you have questions, please contact with networks@eecs

New RADIUS server and EECS-Secure

December 15, 2009 by Janet Shu

Wireless AP controllers in Soda, Cory and Citris will switch to use new RADIUS server on Dec 15 at 9:00PM. The users may need to accept the new certificate from etips1.eecs.berkeley.edu in order to use EECS-Secure. If you are using other SSIDs, you will not be affected by this change.

You can follow the instructions to accept the new certificate based on what platform (xp,vista, windows 7 or mac) your laptop is using. https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/15-faq/21-network/eecs-secure.html

If you have other questions, please contact with help@eecs.

Cisco Wireless Controllers reboot on Dec 5

November 30, 2009 by Janet Shu

New web-authentication certificate is installed in cisco wireless controllers and this requires to reboot the wireless controllers to take effect. The device will be rebooted on Dec 5 at 9:30am. The users in Soda,Cory and CITRIS will lose wireless connection during the reboot, it should take less than 5 mins for each ap controller to reboot and the services should be restored within a short outage. Since 3 ap controllers will require to be rebooted, the outage will be from 9:30am to 10:00am.

wireless network for EECS-Secure

November 14, 2009 by Janet Shu

We would switch to use old RADIUS servers due to the certificate issues on new RADIUS servers.

If you have XP and use EECS-Secure, please make sure your configuration on your wireless client is as following link:
https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/15-faq/05-windows_2000/xp-eecs-secure.html

If you have vista and use EECS-Secure, please make sure your configuration on your client is as following link:
https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/15-faq/05-windows_2000/vista-eecs-secure.html

Other issues, please contact with networks@eecs or help@eecs.

Thanks,

Emergency router reload 5pm

November 9, 2009 by IRIS Staff

The main EECS border router is stuck in a state that prevents either viewing or saving its configuration.

While monitoring the route table during the transition, a command used to examine the hardware routing table status caused the router a fair bit of consternation, leaving it in a state where it is impossible to save or view the configuration.

I will be rebooting the router at 5pm. All external connectivity to EECS will be interrupted, hopefully for a very brief period.
