EECS Mailing List Server downtime, May 13 6p-7p

The Department’s Mailing List server, lists.eecs.berkeley.edu, will be down for maintenance on Wednesday May 13, 2020, beginning at 6pm, for up to one hour. During this time incoming messages will be held for delivery; no mail will be lost, but the web interface will be inaccessible. During this maintenance, operating system patches will be installed, and the back-end database for this service will be migrated to a newer server.

May 2020 Windows Server Patching

[Note: patching is delayed by 24 hours; see UPDATE below]

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, May 12th, 2020. PRINT, WINTERM and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, May 13th, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, May 13th, depending on additional software updates.

April 2020 Windows Server Patching

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, April 14th, 2020. PRINT and WDS will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, April 15th, at 3:00 am.

Change for this month: WINTERM will be rebooted Tuesday evening, April 14th, to increase the amount of CPU available. It may reboot again on Wednesday, April 15th, at 3:00am, to complete patch installation.

WINTERM may be unavailable till 10:00 am Wednesday, April 15th, depending on additional software updates.

Retirement of jabber.eecs March 27, 2020

IRIS has offered a jabber/XMPP server for a number of years, but usage has dropped to zero as people have migrated to other options. When the current SSL certificate expires March 27, 2020, we do not plan to renew it, and this service will be retired.

As a replacement for this service, we recommend Google Hangouts Chat or Hangouts Meet.
