Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, April 9th, 2013.

PRINT, WDS and WINTERM will automatically patch and reboot Wednesday, April 10th, 2013, at 3:00 am.

WINTERM will be unavailable till 10:00am April 10th, 2013.

EECS-Secure wifi outage due to power failure in Soda Hall

A brief power outage in Soda Hall led to an outage in the EECS-Secure wifi, though other EECS wifi SSIDs remained operable.

The cause of the outage was due to the radius servers failing to automatically power on again once power was restored, so they had to be started manually. We will review the configuration of these servers in an effort make them more resilient to such outages.

Matlab license server became unresponsive

The Matlab license server became unresponsive and was restarted. Service is functioning normally now.

Reports of unusual volume size fluctuations on project storage after yesterday’s system maintenance

There have been multiple reports of unusual behavior on the project storage system that include periodic/intermittent fluctuations in volume size. We have contacted the vendor to investigate. Please report any symptoms you may be experiencing to help@eecs

Department filer upgrade on 3/28 at 3pm

At 3pm on Thursday, March 28, the department filers home, project, cluster, and inst-fs will be upgraded to a newer version of Ontap, the on-board system software. The maintenance should be non-disruptive, although some windows mounts may need to be re-mounted.

Unexpected Outage: winterm.eecs

project.eecs short disruption in service at 6:30pm today.

project.eecs will have a short disruption of service at 6:30 pm today. This maintenance should last no longer than 15 minutes, and home.eecs should takeover for project during the downtime. Most home directory accesses should recover gracefully from the disruption. Windows mounts may require a re-connection.

Apologies for the short notice. Normally at least 24 hours would be provided before the maintenance window, but this work is required to prevent a more serious problem.

Wednesday March 6th Wireless Maintenance

We will be performing maintenance on the IRIS wireless networks in Soda on Wednesday March 6th, 2013 from 7am to 8am. Wireless devices in Soda may experience a short interruption of service, while devices in Cory and Sutardja Dai should be unaffected. If your wireless service is affected during this maintenance, please attempt to release and renew your dhcp lease or disable and enable wireless networking on your machine once the maintenance window has ended. If issues continue to occur, please contact the helpdesk.

home.eecs short disruption of service at about 1pm today

home.eecs had a short disruption of service during an unplanned failover to its partner filer at about 1:00 pm today. Service has been restored and most home directory accesses should have recovered gracefully from the disruption. Windows mounts may require a re-connection.
