IMAP Certificate Validation Error
A new SSL cert was installed on imap.eecs on Thursday night. This unfortunately required a new “chain” certificate as Entrust is moving to 2048 bit keys (current keys are 1024 bits). Normally the IMAP server should present this chain cert to the user’s mail client so that the process would be invisible to the end user. However, the chain cert was not installed on the server initially, so the server could not present the cert, and clients were getting a certificate validation error.
Around 2:30pm on Friday, the chain cert was properly installed on the server and after that most of clients began working again. At least one user is still experiencing issues with Windows Mobile and Xpressmail.

Results from Winter 2008 IT Survey
The results of the EECS IT Survey are in and now available to the EECS community
https://www.surveymonkey.com/sr.aspx?sm=Hw0yMfwlQbBhqyHfA3u8emyIhFl9Yx66Gteu7R5p8PE_3d
There were 280 responses to the 1395 sent out, or ~20% response, lower than last year (30% response)
Some notable results:
* the majority of responses again came from grad students as grad students are the majority of our population
* the biggest decrease in satisfaction was with the email service which dropped 14 to 18 % from last year
* the biggest non-change was the continued dissatisfaction with webmail
* the great demand is for a revision control system
* more people are aware of and use the iris web site
* the process of getting hosts on the network continues to be difficult
* more users are using OSX and fewer are using Windows that the previous year
* the quality of support for the clusters has dropped
In addition, this year we took a sampling of questions and comments from the open dialog sections of the survey and have provided some responses:

EECS Survey Results
The results of the EECS IT Survey are in and now available to the EECS community.
There were 422 responses to the 1386 sent out, or ~30% response. This is about the same percentage as last year.
These results have been very helpful in identifying areas in need of improvement as well as services that are working well. We’ve included some slides that compare the satisfaction ratings to the previous year’s survey. Please feel free to email any of your own analysis of the results to iris-survey@eecs.berkeley.edu.
Thank you for your contribution,
Eric Fraser

EECS IT Town Hall meeting, Feb 21st
Dear EECS Community,
Please join us for the 2007 EECS IT Town Hall meeting, sponsored by IRIS. This will be held in Woz Lounge in Soda Hall on Feb. 21st, from 1:30 to 3:30pm.
This is a good opportunity to meet all of the EECS IT Staff, learn about upcoming changes and new deployments. It’s also a great time to ask any IT related questions and give feedback.
There will be refreshments and a limited number of Star Wars themed candy (Pez) dispensers provided.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Eric Fraser
EECS Director of IT
Power supply interrupted at 290 Soda Hall
Last night (Thursday, Jul 13, 2006) at approximately 10pm, there was a UPS failure in the 290 Soda Hall machine room. The UPS unexpectedly went into bypass mode and dropped power to all major services within EECS. Service was restored at approximately 10:30pm. A new circuit board is on backorder from the UPS vendor.
There is a possibility that some e-mail to the IMAP server was bounced.
