On Wednesday evening at 6PM, we will be performing maintenance on the EECS firewall in order to to reinsert the primary device (which failed during the January power maintenance) into the production cluster. Per the vendor, no interruption in service is expected; however, in the event of unforeseen complications Internet connectivity may be lost to the department for some time.

Emergency Maintenance Part Deux TONIGHT 1/15 7PM
There will be another emergency scheduled maintenance tonight at 7PM. This window is scheduled to close at 10PM but the network will be available earlier if all goes well. The wireless network in all locations except BWRC will be unavailable during reconfiguration. Wired networking also will be briefly (less than ten minutes) unavailable for a routing change. We believe these steps will take us closer to fully eliminating the current traffic issues.
We apologize for the massive inconvenience and fully intend to have these issues resolved before the start of the semester.

Emergency Network Maintenance TONIGHT 7:30PM
We will be performing emergency network maintenance tonight at 7:30-10. The network will not be completely unavailable during this time, but the wireless network as well as the wired network in some buildings may periodically go offline. It is our hope that we can use this time to gain insight into the ongoing network issues and help with a resolution before the semester begins.
We expect that the wireless may be down for 20-60 minutes, and that several segments of the network will go offline for periods of 5-10 minutes during the window.

Ongoing Wireless Network Issues
We are currently experiencing worse-than-normal issues with the wireless network including inability to connect, random drops, increased latency, and reduced throughput. We believe we have an idea of the cause and will be working to clear things up over the next couple of days.
As always, we apologize for all inconveniences caused by the network’s performance.

Soda Hall Scheduled Power Outage, January 4th
There is a full-building power outage for Soda Hall scheduled for Sunday, January 4th from 7AM to 2PM. During this time the building will be completely powered off and entrance to the building will not be allowed. This is to facilitate electrical work for the Jacobs Hall construction project and is not related to the EECS-wide network outage scheduled for Saturday, January 3rd.
We have arranged for reserve power to be provided to the network and server rooms in 288, 290, and 420A Soda, such that department and research infrastructure and services will remain online and available to users outside Soda Hall.
We recommend powering off all equipment such as desktop computers ahead of time to prevent any issues caused by unexpected power loss. Additionally, any sysadmins hosting equipment in machine rooms other than 288, 290, and 420A will need to power their machines down in advance of the outage.
Should you need access to the building during the outage (for example, you are a sysadmin who would like to take advantage of the downtime to perform deferred maintenance), please email Miles Bianchi (miles.bianchi@berkeley.edu) for consideration by the Safety Committee. This access will only be granted for special cases.
As an early heads up, there is another, longer outage tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 27th from 6AM to 6PM, during which the Jacobs Hall electrical hookups will be completed. More details will be communicated as the date gets closer.
As always, we apologize for any and all inconvenience caused by this outage, especially given its close proximity to the previously scheduled network maintenance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Derek (dcalderon@berkeley.edu) for IT issues or Miles (miles.bianchi@berkeley.edu) for facilities or safety issues.

EECS Network Scheduled Outage on Jan. 3-4 2015
There will be a full scheduled outage of the EECS network from 10AM – 8PM on Saturday, January 3, 2015. There may be additional contingency outages on Sunday the 4th, but we are unable to confirm the need for additional outages at this time. During this window, the entire EECS network will be offline as we transition to our new routing core.
Expected service impacts:
– Internet connectivity will be unavailable on all EECS networks
– All EECS Wired* networking will be offline or unreliable
– All EECS Wireless** networks will be unavailable (the networks will continue to be visible in some locations, however the underlying transit networks will be offline)
– The BWRC will be isolated from EECS and unable to access the Internet or non-BWRC-hosted resources
– EECS hosted services (such as NFS project space and home directories) will be unavailable
We apologize for any inconvenience that this maintenance will cause. Please contact help@eecs.berkeley.edu with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
EECS/IRIS Network Group
*EECS Wired locations include Soda, Cory, and Sutardja Dai Halls, and the BWRC
**EECS Wireless locations include Soda, Cory, Sutardja Dai, Calvin, and Blum Halls, as well as the Sibley Auditorium, certain areas of the Hearst Memorial Mining Building, and the BWRC

Brief Wireless Outage in Cory and SD Halls
Resolved as of 2014-12-09 15:07:00
Scheduled Maintenance for Wireless Authentication Services
On Wednesday, November 26th at 4-5PM we will be installing updated TLS certificates on our primary wireless authentication (RADIUS) server and on the EECS-Guest web authentication portal. Due system redundancy, no outages are expected, except for a possible brief interruption in EECS-Guest authentication. Existing connections will not be lost, but there may be a short period in which users cannot initiate new connections to EECS-Guest. In this event, we recommend the use of CalVisitor until EECS-Guest is responding again.

Scheduled Maintenance for Wireless Authentication Server
On Wednesday, November 5 at 1PM, we will be performing scheduled maintenance on the primary wireless authentication (aka RADIUS) server, etips1.eecs. The maintenance window is scheduled to end at 2PM.
EECS-Secure will not be affected during the maintenance, as the secondary server will be available to process authentication requests. However, the secondary server is currently unable to process requests for EECS-Guest, and as a result EECS-Guest will NOT be accepting new connections. Existing sessions should not be disconnected, but any new EECS-Guest sessions will fail to authenticate during the maintenance. We recommend that visitors use CalVisitor as a workaround during this time.
Please direct any questions, comments, or concerns to help@eecs.berkeley.edu.

eduroam now available in EECS
The eduroam wireless network is now available in EECS. eduroam is a worldwide wireless network which is shared across many participating institutions. Visitors from other institutions will be able to log on to eduroam while at Berkeley, and anyone from Berkeley who is visiting another institution can log into eduroam using their AirBears 2 key.
For more details on eduroam, please see Berkeley ISTs eduroam information page at http://ist.berkeley.edu/airbears#eduroam or the eduroam website at eduroam.org.
For a general overview of campus-provided wireless offerings (not including EECS networks), please see https://kb.berkeley.edu/page.php?id=27815
If you have any questions, concerns, or issues with eduroam, please send a message to help@eecs.berkeley.edu.
