This morning, June 24th around 7:15 AM, we updated the firewall configuration for our Active Directory and Windows server infrastructure. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any possible issues.
EECS Border Firewall Changes, 6/23
This morning, June 23rd at 7:15 AM, we made some adjustments to the configuration of the EECS border firewall. We do not expect these changes to have any effect on network traffic, but unanticipated effects may be possible.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any network connectivity issues.
EECS DHCP Outage, May 19th
We experienced an issue with our DHCP service this morning, which prevented a number of machines from connecting to the wired network. This issue began around 3AM and was resolved by 10:30AM. If your machine still cannot get online, we suggest rebooting it to try and obtain a new DHCP lease.
We believe that this configuration issue was triggered by yesterday’s datacenter firewall issues. We will be improving our scripts to allow us to better detect and mitigate similar issues in the future.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions, or if you continue to experience network issues.
EECS Border Firewall Changes, Mon. March 23
On Monday, March 23rd, we will be adding some new ports to the list of ports that are blocked by the EECS border firewall.
For detailed information about the changes, please see our EECS Firewall Ports page (this page requires login). The list of ports that we will add to the block list is at the bottom of that page.
Update 3/23 8:05AM: These changes have taken effect, and the new ports are now being blocked from off-campus. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions or notice any issues.
Wireless Networks Offline, Monday 1/5
As of about 11:51 AM: wireless networks are offline due to a power issue in one of the campus network core sites. Wired networks are unaffected and continue to operate normally. We will update again when we have more information about the status of the campus network core.
Update 13:36: Campus has begun restoring power to the network core using temporary connections, so we expect to see some wi-fi service resume. However, wi-fi may experience some continuing instability as the work to restore full power goes on.
Update 17:02: Power has been restored and network services should be fully available. There may be some late-night wi-fi disruptions as staff perform some cleanup work.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions.
Soda 2F Network Interruption, 9/18 10:41 AM
Networks on the second floor of Soda Hall were unavailable for approximately 5-10 minutes today beginning at 10:41 AM. This occurred due to a switch crash during troubleshooting a memory leak.
The network is now stable, but the memory leak issue still exists and requires further network disruption to resolve. We will be attempting to address this during tonight’s already-scheduled Soda Hall electrical shutdown.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions.
Soda Hall Electrical Shutdown and BWRC Network Outage, 9/8 7PM
We have been informed by facilities of the need for a shutdown of all Soda Hall electrical systems on Monday, September 8th, at 7PM. We do not have a clear idea of the duration, but 1-2 hours appears to be a reasonable estimate.
Soda Hall will be completely without power beginning at 7PM. Please shut down your systems before 7PM on Monday to avoid any issues. This includes all systems in the Soda 340 server room.
We expect all IRIS services to remain available, due to a combination of battery backups and redundant servers in other buildings.
BWRC networks will be offline during this shutdown, as they are dependent on Soda Hall.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions.
Update: This work has been rescheduled, and the text above has been updated with the current schedule.
[Read more…] about Soda Hall Electrical Shutdown and BWRC Network Outage, 9/8 7PMNetwork Instability, 8/31 9PM – 9/1 2AM
Portions of the EECS and campus networks experienced instability last night between 9PM and 2AM due to DDoS-like traffic directed at a system on the EECS network. This ended without intervention from network staff; we are investigating and remaining on standby in case this reoccurs.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions or notice any issues.
Jacobs Hall Network Maintenance, Tue. 8/12 10PM – Wed. 8/13 7:30AM
We will be performing Jacobs Hall network maintenance overnight from Tuesday, August 12th at 10PM to Wednesday, August 13th at 7:30AM. This maintenance is to replace the existing end-of-life router and switches with newer campus standard devices.
All wired and wireless networks in Jacobs Hall will be unavailable between 10PM Tuesday night and 7:30AM Wednesday morning. We expect all networks to be back online by 7:30AM.
Update: This work has been completed. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any network issues.
POSTPONED: Jacobs Hall Network Maintenance, Tues. Aug. 5 6AM
At 6AM on Tuesday, August 5th, we will be migrating the first set of Jacobs Hall subnet gateways to new router hardware. This is being done because the current hardware is end-of-life, and also as part of a project to refresh Jacobs Hall networks to the current campus standard.
The following networks will be affected:
– Jacobs Hall general-use wired network (169.229.62.0/24)
– Jacobs Hall wireless networks
During this maintenance, the networks above will be unavailable for a period of time. We expect all work to be complete by 7AM.
Update 8/4: We are postponing this maintenance due to ongoing troubleshooting of a fiber link issue. A new announcement will be made when this work is re-scheduled. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu with any questions.
