tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:00 AM. This should not cause any network
interruptions. This is just a precautionary message.
Morning Wireless Network Downtime
Between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Wednesday the 25th, we will be upgrading the EECS wireless network code on Wednesday with a more recent version of code with one important security patch. This will affect all EECS WLANs (including EECS AirBears). It will NOT affect the outdoor mesh wireless network. We have tested this code for some time so I don’t anticipate any problems.

The server macserver.eecs.berkeley.edu will be patched and rebooted today at 3:30,
please do not be alarmed if it is temporarily inaccessible.
Department Web Server scheduled outage, Apr 19, 5pm
The Department’s web server, www.eecs.berkeley.edu (as well as all other websites that are hosted on that machine) will be unavailable beginning at 5pm on Thursday, April 19. A critical operating system patch has been released from the vendor which requires a reboot. We expect the machine to be back up by 5:15pm.

EECS network infrastructure, UPS Battery replacement
This morning (Friday, April 13, 2007) at 09:30 a.m. PDT, we will be replacing the batteries for the Soda Hall network center UPS. These batteries failed prematurely as we just replaced them last Sept. We do not anticipate any network equipment downtime. However, this is an alert just in case.

CalAgenda Service Outage
At this time, customers will not be able to view their calendars, nor be able to create any new entries.
Calagenda experienced a serious error during it’s regular monthly maintenance on Sunday. The CalAgenda team is working to resolve this problem.

April 8 Network Problem
Sometime on Sunday afternoon, a network problem appeared that was mostly confined to Soda Hall but was also apparent in Cory to a lesser degree. Some subnets lost connectivity due to a failure in our core switch. I was able to switch to the backup management module, and service was restored as of about 07:15 this morning. I will be investigating the cause and I regret the inconvenience this caused for some.
The inst.eecs.berkeley.edu Web Server is Down
The inst.eecs.berkeley.edu web server is down with an apparent hardware failure. It is expected to be working again later today. Updates will follow as repairs progress.
Update: The web server had a disk failure. We are re-installing it with a new disk. I expect it will be back up by 5pm.Emergency Windows Patching
There is an emergency patch released today from Microsoft. HERMES will be patched today, I will reboot at 4:00pm. Please be prepared.
IDSG recommends all Windows host apply this patch ASAP. Patches are available for Windows 2000, Server 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista and Longhorn. x64 bit versions included.

Mailing lists and Jabber unavailable briefly for patching on Wed, Apr 11
Mailing lists and the Jabber service will be briefly unavailable sometime between 5:00p.m. and 5:30p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2007.
The machine hosting these services will be having its operating system patched and will need to be rebooted. Unavailability shouldn’t last more than a few minutes.
