We had a brief network outage this afternoon, from about 12:05-1:15 pm. A clerical error occurred in preparation for switching to the new network core hardware. This caused a VLAN to appear in the network core where it should not have been. This was the cause of the outage. My apologies.
Matlab R2007a Now Available on macsww
Matlab R2007a is now available on macsww for both PPC- and Intel- based Macs. Refer to IRIS’s Mac documentation for information about connecting to macsww.
IRIS Website, Sympa mailing lists and Jabber Unavailable Briefly, May 9
On Wednesday, May 9 from 5:00p.m. to 6:00p.m. the IRIS website, Sympa mailing lists and the Jabber service will be unavailable as the machines hosting these services need to have some patches applied to their operating systems.

IMAP Server Reboot
The IMAP server will be rebooted at 2PM today, 3 May 2007.
IDSG is sorry for the short notice, this reboot is to address the slow IMAP performance.
Server Patching
Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, May 8th.
HERMES, PRINT, RIS and WINSWW will be down for patching on Wednesday,
May 9th, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
macserver.eecs.berkeley.edu, which hosts the Mac software warehouse,
will be down for maintenance at this time as well.
Potential Wireless Downtime in Soda Hall
We will be doing battery maintenance for the Network Com Center in Soda Hall
tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:00 AM. This should not cause any network
interruptions. This is just a precautionary message.
Morning Wireless Network Downtime
Between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Wednesday the 25th, we will be upgrading the EECS wireless network code on Wednesday with a more recent version of code with one important security patch. This will affect all EECS WLANs (including EECS AirBears). It will NOT affect the outdoor mesh wireless network. We have tested this code for some time so I don’t anticipate any problems.

The server macserver.eecs.berkeley.edu will be patched and rebooted today at 3:30,
please do not be alarmed if it is temporarily inaccessible.
Department Web Server scheduled outage, Apr 19, 5pm
The Department’s web server, www.eecs.berkeley.edu (as well as all other websites that are hosted on that machine) will be unavailable beginning at 5pm on Thursday, April 19. A critical operating system patch has been released from the vendor which requires a reboot. We expect the machine to be back up by 5:15pm.

EECS network infrastructure, UPS Battery replacement
This morning (Friday, April 13, 2007) at 09:30 a.m. PDT, we will be replacing the batteries for the Soda Hall network center UPS. These batteries failed prematurely as we just replaced them last Sept. We do not anticipate any network equipment downtime. However, this is an alert just in case.
