Server Patching: 8/15

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, August 14th.

HERMES, PRINT, RIS and WINSWW will be down for patching **Wednesday, August 15th**, from **3:00pm–5:00pm**.

macserver.eecs.berkeley.edu, which hosts the Mac software warehouse, will be down for maintenance at this time as well.

Service Outage/Slowness

Brief Wireless Outage

There will be a brief interruption in EECS wireless services on August 14 between 8:00AM to 08:30AM. RADIUS server will have a security upgrade. Outages should be quite brief. However, users of either the Guest or EECS-11a WLANs may need to reauthenticate. We regret any inconvenience this might cause.

Forgotten News Restored

Network Testing – 8/10

More Helpful Navigation

As you may (or may not) have noticed, a small change to this website’s main navigation menu was made today.

We renamed the “Helpdesk” navigation link to “Get Help” in an effort to make it very simple and obvious where you should go if you need help.

The [helpdesk page][1] is still around, providing a nice description of the Helpdesk’s function in the department—but if you need help, the first place to go is now [https://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu/help][2].

IRIS website maintenance, Aug 5, 9pm

The IRIS website will be offline for maintenance beginning at 9pm on Sunday, August 5, 2007. It should be back in service no later than 10pm.

This will affect all aspects of iris.eecs website, including the network database and user accounts applications.

Mathematica License Renewal

As of August 2, 2007, the EECS license for Mathematica has expired.

We are in the process of renewing the license, but are experiencing some delays as the requisition makes its way through campus bureaucracy. We hope to make a new, valid Mathematica license available on the license server soon.

Unexpected IMAP Server Outage

The IMAP server rebooted unexpectedly today at approximately 12:20 PM, due to an unknown cause. IDSG does not suspect this to be a potential problem, but will keep an eye on the server.
