Wireless Networking

Due to planned electrical work, all Cory Hall third floor wired and wireless networks will be offline during the early morning tomorrow, April 25th. We expect the network to be unavailable beginning at 5AM, and all connectivity should be restored by 10AM at the latest.

We apologize for the short notice; the need for this shutdown was only identified this afternoon.

On Saturday, March 16th, at 6:30AM, we will be performing an HA failback on some network switches in order to restore full operation after Wednesday’s electrical issues. There will be a 5~15 minute wired and wireless network outage in the locations listed below. We expect all network service to be restored by 7AM.

• Soda 4F (north side only)
• Soda 7F
• Cory 1F
• Cory 5F

Update 3/16 06:44: This work has been completed and all networks are back online. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any issues.

We have experienced some scattered network outages due to an apparent power issue, beginning this afternoon at 12:40. Networks in the following areas are known to have experienced an outage:

• Cory 1F wired
• Cory 1F and 5F wi-fi
• Soda 4F and 7F wi-fi
• Sutardja Dai 2F, 3F, 4F wi-fi
• SDH Nanolab 3F-4F wi-fi

Wired networks recovered approx. 12:47; wi-fi should have largely recovered by 13:00, but may still experience some interruptions as the electrical issue is not fully resolved.

From 6AM to 10AM on Wednesday, January 10th, facilities will be performing electrical work in Sutardja Dai Hall which will affect power to our network equipment.

We expect that as a result, there will be two 5-10 minute network outages throughout SDH, one each at the beginning and end of the electrical work.

During these two periods, please expect all wired and wireless networks to be unavailable while our equipment reboots. We expect full network service to resume after each of these periods, however if we experience an unexpected prolonged outage we will update this post with more information.

Update 1/10 12:30PM: All SDH networks are online and stable after a couple brief interruptions earlier this morning. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you continue to experience any network-related issues.

Between 11AM and 5PM on Tuesday, December 26th, we will be performing maintenance on one of the EECS core routers in Soda Hall in preparation for various other projects occurring in 2024. We expect that this maintenance should not affect any network traffic; however there is the possibility of a brief (~5 minute) outage to some networks in the event of an unforeseen circumstance.

Update 12/26 14:46: This maintenance has been completed without any impact to network service. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you are experiencing any network issues.

Between 12PM and 4PM on Wednesday, December 27th, we will be replacing the access switches which provide wired and wireless network connectivity on the 4th through 7th floors of Soda Hall.

During this time, wired and wireless networks on the 4th through 7th floors will experience various interruptions. Note that the Sky Computing Lab will not be affected, as the switch serving that area was already upgraded during a previous maintenance.

Update 12/27 13:24: This work has been completed and all networks are back online. Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you notice any connectivity issues.

Tonight (night of Dec.14 / morning of Dec.15) at 2AM we will be performing a software upgrade on one of the switches providing wired and wireless connectivity on the third floor of Soda Hall.

There will be a brief (approximately 5 minute) interruption to networks in the following areas:
– Wired networks in rooms 310-329, 331-333, 364A, and 373-398
– Wireless networks in rooms 373-395 and immediately surrounding areas

The following areas will not be affected:
– Wired networks in rooms 300-306A, 330, 340-349, 367-369
– Wireless networks in rooms 302-349 and immediately surrounding areas
