Problems with DNS for non-EECS/off-campus hostnames

We are experiencing problems with DNS resolution for non-EECS and off-campus systems (eg, calmail.berkeley.edu, apple.com, nyu.edu, etc …), and are looking into the problem.

Until this is resolved, you will experience difficulty in accessing non-EECS systems by hostname from the EECS network and may also experience problems access off-campus systems by hostname from elsewhere on Campus.

Network Problems Due to Services from cronus

The multi-homed server cronus stopped providing NIS and DNS services. This has the potential to cause slowness or timeouts with various network traffic.

After rebooting, cronus is functioning normally again.

Network Problems in EECS

The multi-homed server cronus stopped providing NIS,
DNS and time services Wednesday August 27th 03:53 to 07:18 PDT 2008 . During this outage, the multi-home
server rhea continued to provide NIS, DNS and time services.

Network/NIS Problems (resolved)

January 16, 2008 by IRIS Staff

This afternoon, during a network maintenance operation, there was an issue with a pair of redundant fibers that lost link and then after the fiber links were restored, a configuration issue caused some delays in DNS and NIS. Service has been restored.
