Network Outage
Late this afternoon our core router in Soda Hall had a hard failure on one of the management switch modules. When the router tried to fail over to the backup module, it also, exhibited a failure. I have rebooted the first module and network service has been restored. However, there may still be a problem and we are addressing this now with the vendor. Further outages may occur without warning until we get this resolved. I regret the inconvenience this may cause.
Brief network outages on soda 4th-5th floor 5:30PM-6:30PM
I will replace a new network hardware on Soda 4th floor (soda4b)on Thursday April 13,2006. There will be brief network outages from 5:30PM to 6:00PM.
This will affect users who use wired connection on the east side of 4th floor. Since our wireless network feeds into our switched infrastructure at several locations in Soda, there will also be a couple of brief outages to the wireless network from floors 4-5 as well.
I regret any inconvenience this may cause. Please make your plans accordingly.

A network switch located on the 5th floor of Soda Hall is off-line.
IDSG network staff are looking into the problem and will have it resolved as soon as possible.

Soda Helpdesk closed during Spring Break
The EECS Helpdesk in 313 Soda hall will be closed from March 27, 2006 through March 31, 2006 (Spring Break) due to a staff shortage. The Helpdesk is staffed almost entirely by UC Berkeley undergrads, most of whom will be out of town this week.
The Helpdesk in 395 Cory Hall will remain open during normal business hours.
If you happen to stop by the Helpdesk this week, make sure to thank the student(s) working for deciding to stay around during their vacation!
Network outages
As some of you may have noticed, we’ve had a couple of network outages this weekend. IDSG staff is working on the issue. We hope that the steps taken so far will prevent further outages until we can talk to the vendor; however, there is a chance of the problem coming back before Monday. We will continue to monitor the situation and will attempt to respond ASAP.
Network Upgrade over Spring Break
We will be upgrading the network over the Spring Break.
Expect short network outages during the period from 07:00 to 08:00 (AM)
