The new version of Matlab for Macintosh, R2006a, the license file and instructions for installation are available on //macsww/public/PPC/matlab.

Navigate to //macsww/public/PPC/matlab/R2006A/disk1 and double click InstallForMacOSX to install. The installer will prompt you to select the files corresponding to CD’s 2 and 3, which are disk2 and disk3.

Cut copy and past license.txt when prompted.

Be careful not to install the license server.

To delete a previous installation simply drag /Applications/MATLAB7x to the trash.

Access to coeus will be unavailable for an indeterminate time this morning, due to a problem with CIFS access to coeus. This will prevent EECS users from accessing their home directories and may cause Windows login problems. The problem is expected to be repaired within a short time.

This issue is unrealted to maintenance in 290 Soda this morning.

Microsoft will release their patches for the month on Tuesday, June 13, 2006. HERMES, PRINT, RIS and WINSWW will be down for patching the following Wednesday, June 14, 2006, from 3:00p–5:00p.

macserver.eecs.berkeley.edu, which hosts the Mac software warehouse, will be down for maintenance at this time as well.

The 290 machine room shutdown will be happening on Wednesday, June 7th,
between 7 and 9 AM.

As a reminder, this would mean that coeus/project fileservers, IMAP server, as well as most other IDSG-provided services will be disrupted (DNS, NIS, LDAP, AD).

The 290 machine room will be shut down on Wednesday, May 31st, between 7 and 9 AM.

We need to do maintenance on the UPS in the machine room. Hopefully, most of the work can be done in the bypass mode, however, there will definitely be a point when we need to shut the UPS down, losing most of the power in the room. Note that while the power is turned off, ALL EECS network services will be unavailable. This includes project, coeus, imap, and wired and wireless internet access.

We will try to keep the downtime to the minimum. I apologize for the short notice and the inconvenience.

313 Soda Hall

The Soda Hall helpdesk is closed for the summer.

The EECS Helpdesk in 313 Soda Hall will be closed until the beginning of the 2006 Fall semester. This is due to the reduction in staff and decreased demand during the summer months.

The Helpdesk in 395 Cory hall will continue to operate during normal business hours.

The DNS name coeus.Berkeley.EDU has been a nickname for our
Network Appliance fileserver coeus.EECS.Berkeley.EDU.

We are going to give up the coeus.Berkeley.EDU DNS nickname so
as to allow the campus Sponsored Projects Office to use it
for a campus-level information system beginning May 23, 2006.
