apps.eecs, wiki.eecs downtime Friday 8am

October 17, 2014 by Rob McNicholas

The server hosting apps.eecs.berkeley,edu, wik.eecs.berkeley.edu and some other project websites[*] will be rebooted Friday, October 17th 2014 between 8am and 9am. Total downtime should be around 5 to 10 minutes.

This server is experiencing poor network performance. This reboot will be to reconfigure the virtual machine with a new network driver which has shown significantly better performance in our testing. Current bandwith to our NFS server is lmited to around 1.2 MB/s. In testing with the new driver, we are getting around 25 MB/s.

As usual, please send any questions or comments to the IRIS helpdesk at help@eecs.berkeley.edu.

UPDATE

[2014-10-17 09:19:29 | Rob McNicholas]

The scheduled maintenance took longer than expected due to some unexpected problems with the network interface on our virtual machine. But as of shortly after 9am, all service has been restored.
