The IRIS website will be moved to new hardware on Sunday, September 17, 2006. This involves migrating a large amount of data from our Oracle database to the new database server, and consequently the IRIS applications that depend on the database will be unavailable from midnight to 8pm during this migration. We expect the main IRIS website will remain up for most of this time, but brief outages will be noticeable during the transition.
The move to new hardware will greatly speed up our database applications, and in the long run will increase the reliability of our web services.

The System Activation / Update forms were fixed around 2:30am Monday morning. The only remaining known problem is searching the IRIS website.
UPDATE
[2006-09-17 22:16:45 | Rob McNicholas, IRIS Staff]
The IRIS website was offline from 4am-1:30pm Sunday due to a firewall
configuration problem that occurred during this work. In addition,
there are still a few lingering post-upgrade issues. At this time
(9:45pm Sunday night), the Network Database Request forms (System
Activation / Update) are not yet functional, although the query forms
are working. Additionally, the search engine on the IRIS website is
broken. We hope to have both of these issues fixed by the end of the
day on Monday, Sep 18.
I apologize for any inconvenience this downtime caused.
