A volume license for Windows 10 has been obtained by the department and copies are now available at 395 Cory Hall, the Helpdesk. The 64bit version available contains the long term servicing branch of Windows. More information about this can be found here: https://blogs.windows.com/business/2015/01/30/windows-10-for-enterprise-more-secure-and-up-to-date/
As with any new OS version, we recommend taking a cautious approach to upgrading: not upgrading too soon, waiting for initial patch releases, and so on. That being said, we have so far seen good results with Windows 10 upgrades. Windows 10 works fine with our infrastructure (wifi, file service, …), and works well on machines that shipped initially with Windows 7 or 8.
So you can choose to update your current system to Windows 10 now, or wait until your next machine purchase comes with Windows 10 pre-installed. Windows 7 will remain supported until January 2020.
