Mailing list messages delayed

November 7, 2008 by Rob McNicholas

The EECS mailing list server, lists.eecs.berkeley.edu, ran out of memory and stopped processing messages around 4am on Friday, November 7. It was restarted around 9am.

During the outage, the server was accepting incoming messages but not redistributing them. Once it was restarted all messages were then delivered. No messages should have been lost.

We will be adding more memory to the server in the next day or two, which should prevent this problem from occurring again.

We apologize for the inconvenience.
