Migrating Jabber/XMPP Service

August 27, 2008 by IRIS Staff

The Jabber/XMPP server, jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu, will be migrated to new hardware beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2008.

Jabber will be unavailable during the migration, which shouldn’t take more than an hour.

UPDATE

[2008-08-27 08:09:28 | Emrys Ingersoll]

The Jabber/XMPP service was successfully migrated to the new server, but, due to an oversight on my part, is inaccessible to clients outside the EECS network.

I didn’t think to request the necessary firewall configuration for the Jabber server on the EECS border firewall. I have since done so and clients outside the EECS network will be able to access Jabber as soon as the firewall is reconfigured.

My apologies for the delay and the inconvenience.

UPDATE

[2008-08-27 10:12:08 | Emrys Ingersoll]

The border firewall rules have been updated and clients outside the EECS network can once again access the jabber service.

Thanks for your patience.
