Remote Installation Service (RIS) down

There has been a malfunction in the software deployment structure. IDSG attempted to establish a deployment directory for ristoo.eecss, serving the Vista OS, then brought the server to production and changed the name to ris.eecs. However, the deployment directory never updated its name. Trying to repair this had the added effect of bringing down the remote installation service for XP, which had been working.



ris.eecs is down and under repair for now, IDSG expects to have it back in service by 04/09/08.

ris.eecs is still down, notification will be sent when the server returns to production.

The Windows remote installation server has been rebuilt and is back in production.

Upon booting to ris.eecs.berkeley.edu you have two choices;

1) IDSG ONLY – WDS 2) Remote Installation Services

Remote Installation Services will take you to the familiar blue pages and install Windows XP SP2. Windows deployment services (WDS) is still under development and available only to members of the IDSG group.

For instructions on using RIS see http://iris.eecs.berkeley.edu and search for RIS.

Please contact help@eecs if you have any trouble installing Windows XP SP2 from ris.eecs.berkeley.edu.
