Mailing List Messages Delayed, Sep 2

September 2, 2011 by Rob McNicholas

Beginning around midnight on September 2, our MySQL database server began refusing connections from lists.eecs.berkeley.edu. Since all subscription information is kept in the database, no mailing list messages could be delivered during that time. The database server was reset around 9:30am and all queued departmental email has been delivered at this time (10am). No email should have been lost.

Initial investigation points to the database server intentionally blocking connections due to too many simultaneous requests from lists.eecs. This investigation will continue and the database server will be tuned as needed to prevent a recurrence of this problem.
