Jabber maintenance, May 12 6-7pm

May 12, 2011 by Rob McNicholas

The department’s jabber/xmpp server, jabber.eecs.berkeley.edu, will be offline for maintenance from 6pm – 7pm on Thursday, May 12.

During this time, the server will be upgraded to the latest version of [Openfire](http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/openfire/index.jsp) (version 3.7.0). This version [contains numerous bug fixes](http://www.igniterealtime.org/builds/openfire/docs/latest/changelog.html) which should increase the reliability of the service. In particular, there are a couple memory leak fixes that might solve a problem we have been having with our server running out of memory.

Please send any questions to help@eecs.

UPDATE

[2011-05-12 18:18:43 | Robert McNicholas]

The upgrade to Openfire 3.7.0 has been completed successfully, and service was restored at 6:15pm. As usual, please report any problems to help@eecs.
