Our Facilities crew has received the new circuit breaker to be installed on the first floor of Soda (see previous IRIS News items for September 18 and September 8), and has scheduled the installation for the evening of Wednesday, November 5. As announced to Soda Hall occupants by the building manager via email, power to the building will be out between 7PM and 10:30PM, so building occupancy will not be allowed.
Since this outage is expected to be longer than the previous work, IRIS will be shutting down the department NetApp fileservers, and all systems that depend on them (such as webservers and login servers). Fileservers will be shutdown at 6:45PM; most other systems will be shutdown between 6PM and 6:30PM. Please shutdown any systems that depend on IRIS fileservice by 6:30PM.
We plan to keep dhcp.eecs and lists.eecs, the department mailing list server, online during this time. Redundant services such as Active Directory and LDAP will continue to be served from Cory Hall.
BWRC networks may be offline for a time during this shutdown, as they are dependent on Soda Hall.
Please contact us at help@eecs.berkeley.edu if you have any questions.
UPDATE
[2025-11-05 | larsrohr ]
The electrical work was successful, and finished ahead of schedule. Servers have been powered back on, and services restored. IRIS staff are troubleshooting a fileservice issue with the vendor, affecting Instructional clients.
If you encounter any issues, particularly with fileservice, please check whether a reboot fixes things, and then contact help@eecs if you need further assistance.
UPDATE
[2025-11-06 | larsrohr ]
Instructional fileservice was restored by about 1:15am, and their servers were brought online by about 1:30am.
